I finally got the Beemer back last Thursday - the dealer gave it a thorough inspection and said that other than the wheel it was fine.

So, £250 insurance excess paid - small price when I think of what could have happened.  ???

Blimey, one damaged wheel was an insurance claim - that is almost more shocking than the incident itself.

The wheel on its own was £462, then a tyre and the fitting.  Total of best part of £650, so I had to claim.

Fortunately, I have protected no claims, so the full discount is passed on the (new) insurers for the coming year. After 10 years with the same broker, they sent me a letter saying that the underwriters had changed their terms of business so they could no longer provide me with insurance.

I don't know whether it's anything to do with this claim, but I suspect not.

Insurance costs these days are silly. I mocked up a quote for my step daughter to be on my insurance for the car as she'll be old enough in a few years to start driving and wanted a heads start. Even if I changed my car for a group 1 level it would still add over £1500 to my annual payment!! So me being me though "I know i'll go down the classic car route, classic insurance is always cheaper".
Not so good.... £91 for me fully comp on quite a range of cars or £3674 for her as well was the cheapest I could find!
No wonder you find so many kids driving around with no insurance!!

Back to your wheel Trevor, that's the price you pay for having a new bike these days, no-one has cheap(ish) second hand spares..  :(
