Hello everyone :D

I've been signed up on here for a while and thought it about time to chirp in. I recognise some bikes on here and some names ring a bell too.

I've got an SZR660 road  bike, an SZR660 track bike project in bits (I'm waiting for a new FI 4 valve engine to crop up at a decentish price. I may be waiting some time...), am SRX400 twin shock waiting for a tank* and my boyfriend has an SR500 project and an Enfield bullet 500 to wheeze around on.

* does anyone know of an alternative tank for the SRXs? Mine has rotted through underneath :(

Welcome to insanity Kayla!
                                   Im afraid SRX tanks are pretty unique to themselves. Have you tried D&K at Newcastle under Lyme? They may be able to help. Other than that you may need to get yours repaired. Im sure there are people around who are pretty handy "tinbashers". I will keep my ear to the ground. How badly is yours rotted?
(I too have a similar problem with a monoshock tank but D&K fixed me up with a replacement but dented tank. That has now been sorted see  http://www.thumperclub.com/smf/index.php?topic=6008.30 )

Welcome to the club. Sorry about the state of some of the members though, it's best thought of as a sort of scheme to keep them off the streets!  ;D

Sorry can't help with the SRX stuff but you are in the right place.

Hello and welcome to the Thumpers Family.

There are sometimes SRX tanks on E-bay, almost in Germany where a lot of SRX had been sold.

1JK, 1XM, 1XL tanks are the same. Generally, Germans speak good english (not like me, but I am French)

If you are fond of japanese language (or do have a friend of you abble to read japanese), you can go to Yahoo auction. Prices are not so dear, even if you have to add the shipping fees.

Srx Tank are quite rare and prices raise in these crisis days. It is sometimes cheaper to mend it.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies :) I'll keep my eyes open for an SRX tank, the engine was going to go in an SZR chassis but I saw this-



on another site and love the look of it, so I think the SRX might live again (if I can find a tank!)

Thats one of the beautiful SRX's that was at one of the Monoconnection meets in Holland. The next meet is later on this year. If you need ideas for a modified bike thats the place to be.

SZR parts are even harder to find than SRX ...so I think you are probably taking the "sensible" route...(If there is one!)
Try D&K in  Stoke for SRX bits including tanks

I think so. I hate the look of the standard SZR too and that SRX up there is lovely :D

If you strip the paint off the lower parts of the tank and fiberglass it with epoxy and filler, it will never leak again.

Not quite that easy with modern fuels

The instructions say polyester resins will be damaged by modern fuels. Polyester resins dissolve in old fuels, too. Nobody but an idiot would use polyester around petrol. Fiberglassing with a modern epoxy like West System will be proof against any modern petrol. Their instructions describe a procedure that will certainly ruin the fuel tap and probably make it impossible to remove. The tap must come out before any de-rusting or coating is done.
