Best let yourself expire before carrying on
« on: June 11, 2012, 01:20:46 PM »
Bike insurance renewal came through and I had already said to not allow automatic renewal. Quote £155.07
So, once again just like the last 2 years, I let the policy lapse and then take out a new one with the same company and this year it was £140.99. The policy & cover etc are identical, just cheaper if you do it afresh rather than renew.

There really is no excuse for this behaviour (their's, not mine); whatever happened to loyalty?

I do the same thing. I renew online with the same company. What I did last time was get 2 quotes from the same company, one by phone and the other on the 'pooter. The 'pooter was £15 cheaper.

I never stay with the same company for more than a couple of years. The first years premium is great! nice and cheap, next year it's gone up 50%!   The annoying thing is if you go on the website and fill your details in as a new customer it's 50%  cheaper!

I usually end up with Bennetts one year and Carol Nash the next. I think last years cover was about £70 fully comp for the XBR.
Growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional!

I have to say I am pleased with Footman James This is a classic insurance but covers 4 bikes with european recovery and I think its £130.00 but I get a discount as a VMCC member. It hardly moves each renewal

I go onto 'compare the mearcat' get a quote from my current provider and tell them to match my renewal to that. Bennetts have done so for the last 2 years.

If you have to call to cancel why not just take last years quote, add a small random number and tell them that's what another insurer has offered? It worked with Hastings direct for two years. The third year they said they couldn't match it so I told them to cancel the automatic renual and started on the one with annoying song.

Treat idiots like idiots is my plan.

I have a multibike policy with Carole Nash. They insured me with Groupama. My renewal notice came through last month-£180.I wanted to add a new bike to the policy (ZZR1100),so I tried the internet.Groupama quoted me just over £400 for 3 bikes, the XBR,GPZ750,ZZR1100.I tried Carole Nash on the internet, leaving out my Bantam (it was on the last policy),and replacing it with the 1100.I was quoted £150.The insurance company was Groupama.Very odd.

Loyalty doesnt exist in this country whichever side of the fence you sit on. As you say, just take the insurance companies and work THEIR system to YOUR advantage ..... period!

I wonder why none of them guarantee the same price for existing customers as new ones? If you jack up the premium 30% in the second year and half of those affected desert to another supplier you make money from the lazy ones. If you guarantee you won't do this the hacked off and those to whom an hours work is worth saving a fiver will go, but you create you own group of customers who can't be bothered and still take a proportion of new customers from your competitors.
