Weekend of racing
« on: May 08, 2012, 09:10:11 AM »
Being a new Eurosport suscriber I am still getting used to just how much bike racing you can watch of a weekend. This weekend should have been an overdose of racing but SBK from Monza was bizarrely truncated by the fact that Pirelli could only supply a wet tyre that lasted three laps. The Supersport guys did race and hats off to Sam Lowe for a great ride to second place on a lethal track.

However we had MotoGP and two days of BSB at Oulton Park too.

I've followed BSB for years on ITV4, but I'm new to the support classes. What have I been missing! I'm loving watching Ben Wilson in the Supersport class, but it's great racing throughout the field.

Yet again the premier class (MotoGP) was the dullest racing of the weekend, although it was great seeing Cal Crutchlow riding well again. Rossi had some pace and he was more upbeat after the race than he has been for ages. Our other Brit rider James Ellison had another dismal day on the poorly-performing PBM bike and on Monday he must have been delighted when his team manager (Paul Bird) told BSB viewers that he was considering giving Shane Byrne the ride for the next GP to see if he can sort the bike (which apparently is a chattering mess, fit for the bin - and that's the opinion of Casey Stoner).

Ahhhh... and it's the North West and TT time soon  ;)

Just checked the BBC Northern Ireland website for North West 200 programme times and they say:

"We'll be showing the two new races live via our website, and you can also catch highlights of them on an extended Friday night preview programme on BBC One NI which will come live from the paddock.

"These highlights will also feature in our two one hour highlights programmes that will be shown on Sunday, May 20 and Monday, May 21."

If you're a digital telly viewer then it's a doddle to find BBC NI. They cover all the road races so it's worth checking the website for details: HERE

Aha, it hasn't made it here yet, it's still in Penarth. The priority was to get the ER5 outfit sold and that was delivered to Solihull last weekend. There was no room in the garage until that was sold. Then I had to deal with a massive dispute I've been having with the owner of a car I damaged. I was being asked to pay a £3,800 bill to repair a car that didn't really need the work doing. It's been really really stressful. It was only resolved this weekend when I bought the car off her for £5,000. The car is now at a second hand car yard and I will only recoup the (borrowed) money when it is sold.

The lesson is, never let your liability insurance lapse  ::)

The plan for the XBR rig is to get it fully stripped down and send all the bits for powder coating off in one go. That should be happening in the next three weeks.

This is reply is dithering on because I'm dragging my feet about going out for a little 5k run... time to get offline and get the running daps* on  ;)
