Unregistered bikes question
« on: February 29, 2012, 06:25:03 PM »
To register a bike I need an MOT and insurance (plus other bits). Hopefully I should be able to get insurance based upon the frame number. The question is I know I can ride an untaxed bike to an MOT station, but can I ride an unregistered bike ?

No Problem, but pre book it and get them to write the frame number in their booking diary

When i last did that exercise...
My insurers gave me 2 weeks on the frame number before they needed a proper registration number
and as has been said... book the MOT use the chassis number... then (in theory) take the shortest route to the garage.. .personally i went for a bit of a test ride, ended up doing 20 miles to the garage which was 5 miles up the road ... oops

Funny...!

Had a few bikes recently for MOT so that they can be registered.
A couple of Trials bikes,a chop and a few other assorted beasties.

The effect of the new SORN it, insure it or get a huge fine letter? You'd have thought it would have the opposite effect, if you are using a road bike off road you'd want it off DVLA's radar.

Based upon the frame number its quite an early bike.

I have just put a trials bike on the road and  the sequence was

Dating letter from the bike club VOSA accepted person.
Large form had to be applied for with length weight fuel etc. Cant remember if that was before or after the MOT
Mot on the chassis number.
Visit to the local Vosa Licencing office where he took my New MOT and replaced it with one that had the reg number they supplied on it. (Oh and pay about £80.00)
Number plated fitted and tell insurance the number.

It certainly looks a good useable bike to me Steve, dare I ask why you built it? surely not to use up valueable spares?
