I am currently experimenting with Google Ads at the top of the page. This hopefully will not be too intrusive.

Looks fine to me.

The advertisers do know the sort of people who hang about here though don't they? Do the manufacturers of petrol stoves need to advertise? Can suppliers of marginally used XBR and Landrover parts afford adverts?

When you say experimenting what exactly do you mean Steve?

On another UK site the Goofle Ads appear in the forum texts, and they advertise local Aussie product making the text useless.
Unfortunately it is mostly in technical posts. Totally frustrating and invasive so I avoid purchasing off the companies that advertise this way. Please make sure that this is not the same format.

Assuming I can get it working, the ads will be unobtrusive, www.srx600.net would be an example of what it will be like.

I can only assume it looks at your search engine useage and adjusts accordingly...........

This could get interesting.

Heh!

Yeah, that had crossed my mind...!   ;)

Cannot be however, this is my work computer.  I have not seen any ads for car parts for quirky fibreglass cars!!

Aye Andy,

The tab on the bottom right corner of the window opens the explanation and "Yes" it IS based on your previous viewing "experience"! :-X  ;)

It seems to use a variety of techniques for targeting the adverts. If for instance you do a search on www.screwfix.co.uk you will find screwfix adverts show up highlighting parts you were looking for. Clever stuff, and perhaps a little worrying as well.
The adverts should hopefully raise enough to cover the hosting costs next year.

Personally, I would prefer to drop you guys a tenner and skip the ads but then there is the need for someone to collect and bank etc...

look at the bottom right corner of the ad, see the link saying add choices, you can download a small programme to stop the ads from appearing and stop google from tracking you across the www.
