Hi,joined this great site yesterday, been into bikes for 40 years but have just got my first single cylinder, xbr 500h, i bumped into a guy i worked with 32 years ago and got chatting, i mentioned i was still into bikes in fact i was just about to finish a cbr600 i have restored, he told me he knew of an old bloke who was looking to get rid of a bike he had,and would get his number for me,he rang and gave me the guys number and said it was a xbr500, i duly gave the guy a call and to my question how much was shocked to get the reply "YOU CAN HAVE IT" he explained there was a couple of problems but it is a runner, i said i coulnt take it for nowt so he said 10 quid, deal done, when i went to pick it up in the van he produced a bloody big bag of brand new spare parts, there is all sorts in it, i gave him £50 which he was reluctant to take, my plan is to strip the bike and rebuild it, other than a cylinder head bolt snapped i cant see much else wrong but untill i strip it i wont find out, couple of pics on the next page

Welcome jeffa,

You appear to have landed on your feet with that wee deal!  8)

I hope that you enjoy getting the bike fettled and I'm sure the XBR loons will be along soon to assist if needs be.

You may have noted that there appear to be other fetishes practised by site luminaries, besides motorcycles! ;) However, this shouldn't bother you, unless you are into camping stoves that have the thermal output equivalent of an Avro Vulcan on 'full' reheat!!!!!!!!!  ::)

Good health, Bill.

Hi Jeffa, Welcome to the Thumperclub.

You got that for £50!!!  :o :o :o.....I hate you already! (Just kidding!)

Looks like you've got yourself the basis of a really nice bike there, original exhausts- look after them and the downpipes they're like hen's teeth, rear seat cover, again you don't often get these and they go for a lot of money on Ebay. Not sure about the fairing, but the bike doesn't look too bad at all. Plenty of folks here who can give you advice if you need it and I'm sure you'll enjoy it when it's finished, the XBR is a really nice bike.

Good luck with your project.

Just seen that you sold the fairing....was that the one on Ebay from Lincoln? if so I'm at Ruskington just down the road.

Wow what luck, I have always thought about being offered (an old bike thats been sitting in my shed for years) if you take it on you can have it for free, and in my case finding out its a Vincent or brough superior :) Oh the dreams. Good luck with your bike, I have an xbr so any problems I may have an answer

Welcome to the mad house Jeffa. I predict this one is going to be a bargain you'll enjoy.

Now the big question: Which of the XBR saddo's on here bought that big piece of Tupperware? We have to have a decent percentage of the countrys XBRists. Tall, mildly confused looking fellow with a van? South or Mid Wales accent? Anyone who smells of petrol, has no eyebrows and claimed to have just had a cuppa?

Hi, thanks for all the warm welcomes, i could have got the bike for £10 but when he gave me the big bag of spares i insisted he took £50 of me, i have in the last 4years been given 2 other bikes for free, a honda cbr600fr which had stood for 4 years after its owner died ,and a 1966 suzuki M30 which has stood since 1973, i rebuilt the honda and have given a lad in work the suzy,im just about to finish a 1991 cbr600fm that i have rebuilt, if you want some pics i can upload some, i know this site is for single cylinder machines but it will give you an idea of what i do for one of my hobbies, this is my road bike,
i sold th fairing to a guy in staffordshire, i live on the wirral
