SRX 600 rear suspension
« on: September 10, 2011, 10:35:42 AM »

May as well progress this while trying to sort forks, hopefully just a unbolt and bolt on replacements.. although will take the opportunity to look at swing arm bearings/bushes.

Looks like original shocks on bike (with reservoir), on highest winding and quite soggy, so time to replace...

Ikons may be bit too pricey at £320 (<http://www.bike-revival.co.uk/exp.html> ),
found these via Fleabay http://www.patternparts.net/p-Yamaha_SRX_600_Shock_Absorbers_(Pair_Black)_86_89-27331.aspx
but guess you get what you pay for...

Be grateful for any advice and recommendations  - makes/model, a good supplier

Happy to consider any offers of used shocks if in good condition,

regards
Rafe

Evening Dawdler,
The pattern shocks look suspiciously like the pair I've just removed from my '89 UK 600. Spring rates were WAY too high, but I guess it depends on what they're built or spec'd for. With mine I'm sure the only movement was the compression of the eye bushes (and my spine).
I've replaced them with a pair of NJB 330mm twin spring 'road race' shocks spec'd for an 80kg rider with bike weight of 160kg and a 50/50 front/rear split.
Problem with the 330mm eye to eye length (minimum required for the twin rate 'race' shocks I believe) is that the underside of the swinging arm makes contact with the standard silencer in the unloaded condition.
Not an issue (so far) with me on board as loaded sag takes care of this but time will tell if it causes any problems.
The side stand seems less steady because of the increased ride height.
First 20 mile ride on (bumpy) B and C roads would strongly suggest this was a good move, they're supple and seem well damped. But it has amplified the soft front springing so Hagon progressive springs are now on the shopping list.
Cost was £126.00 plus delivery, good value to my mind and NJB also list standard single rate road shocks at around £72.00.

When researching shocks I had a word with Falcon Shocks who were very helpful and will build to order. I was given a ball park figure of £230.00 for steel bodied units.

Hope this is of use.
