Hi I have returned the fold!
« on: August 21, 2011, 12:35:50 PM »
Hi

I was a member on here  a while back when I had a Skorpion. Missed having a single and now have an SLR650 which I am tidying up and should be riding soon. :)

Really looking forward to be on a single again - 4s just don't seem to do it for me...

Glad to be back ;D

Cheers

How's the work on the SLR going? The summer appears to be fading fast....

Had a ride out on it first time today.

All good other than the speedo drive - I had replaced the duff original with a superdream one - seemed a good plan - same spindle diameter and they had a 19" front wheel. Fitted nice - 'all good to go' thinks I ;D

Note first on the ride that no speed registering and then a little later noticed odometer mileage going down :o

After some puzzlement I discover the superdream one rotates the cable  in the opposite direction to the SLR one....  ::)

So I have a unique bike - I can tell exactly how fast I am going as long as its going backwards. 8)

I'm not sure if the SLR drive is anything like the XBR one, but when mine packed up all it was was that the two tabs that actually rotate the drive had bent back and weren't engaging.
Growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional!

Thanks Steve but my original drive was completely fubar'ed - had jammed and stripped the nylon teeth.

The Superdream must have had the drive on the left not the right...

Have got a new drive on order - not cheap but really want to get out there riding the SLR  in what's left of what we call summer :)

And good thinking  Hackbridge - I had thought if I mount the speedo on the rack and face that way it should be OK...
