bike trip this weekend
« on: June 28, 2011, 07:01:38 PM »
Just decided to make a long weekend touring Scotland this weekend. I know it is short notice.

Its celebrating my silver wedding anniversary, have booked a hotel near Stirling for sunday night need accommodation on Friday in the borders and then further north on Saturday. Possibly Inverness or Fort William or anywhere in between.

Any one got any recommendations. Must be suitable for swmbo and not to expensive.

Hi John
If you'd mentioned it when I spoke to you earlier I would have recommended this place in the Borders:

Tibbie Shiels Inn
St. Marys Loch, Selkirk TD7 5LH
01750 42231

http://www.tibbieshiels.com/

Camped there last year, but they also do very nice rooms. Excellent location!

Aye John,

This isn't cheap, but I stay here when staying in Inverness and it is very comfortable, quiet, safe parking, yet close to Inverness Town centre. Kenny and Margaret will look after you well.
Kenny and Margaret MacGruer, Highfield House, 62 Old Edinburgh Road, Inverness IV11 1DT, Tel: 01463 238892 E-mail: info@glenmuircottage.co.uk
Web: www.glenmuircottage.co.uk

Good clean accommodation, cracking breakfast and used to motorcyclists visiting Steve Hislop exhibition and also Jimmy Guthrie exhibition in Hawick Museum.
Frankie and Amanda, Hizzy's Guest House, 23B North Bridge Street, HAWICK, TD9 9BD, Tel: 01450 372101, Mobile: 07702 507182, E-mail: frankie@hizzys.co.uk
Web: www.hizzys.co.uk

Again not cheap, but good clean comfortable accommodation and they also run the main pub just on the main street in Thornhill, good beer and food. Son owns and runs motorcycles, so they know what its about!
Hanne Gronberg, Gillbank House. 8 East Morton St. Thornhill, Dumfriesshire DG3 5LZ. Tel: 01 848 330 597 email: hanne@gillbank.co.uk Web: www.gillbank.co.uk

Have a good weekend and if we are about, have a cuppa and or spanners if needs be.

Cheers, Bill.

Not sure about local accommodation but if you want a brew / spanners or whatever near Falkirk then let me know. Looks like decent weather forecast over the next few days, hope you have a good run.  :)

Hi Beeman,

Just got back from traversing the Caledonian Canal, we had a couple of nights at the Caledonian Hotel in Fort Augustus, nice and central to the area, superb hotel at £60 per night bed and breakfast for an en-suite double room, Chris MacLellan's the man to talk to. Further details:- Tel.01320 366256

John
Here I go again!!

Thanks for all ideas have booked a couple of places. Weather looks good but SWMBO stil mumbling about size of seat distance speed etc. Also traveling fairly light with just a top box and tankbag.
Funny 25 years ago we went everwhere on the bike, 3 kids later and several pounds heavier the bikes seem more cramped two up than I remember
Going up the west coast across the great glen to Inverness and down to Stirling. Visiting places we went to 25 years ago.
