Fast and dirty
« on: March 15, 2011, 02:26:50 PM »
Was away last week in Florida on holiday. On a tip off from Mr Inman of Sideburn mag and other such journalistic endeavours I went to watch the AMA flat track racing at Volusia Speedway, some pics follow...

Half mile track, bit warmer than Amman Valley.
Pit passes were bought and everyone was very friendly, and happy to talk about their bikes.
So, in no real order.

Carson (26B) came running over enthusing about Sideburn Mag, his first time on the twins.

Coolbeth Jr was riding his XR and a Kawasaki 450

Jason Griffin was looking smooth on his Kawasaki too

Mees' race XR was a bit quicker than his pit bike

and he was storming in the racing.

First time I had seen a canted cylinder Yamaha in the flesh, apparently although heavier ti felt light, but they were struggling to get it to hook up ok.

Pair of DL engined Suzuki framers

and Cose in action on his-

Not just boys racing either.

and Nicole Cheza (15)

Halbert was there and won Expert Singles (I think)

and on his XR (which expired)

And some more of the interesting machinery.
King's RXV550 engined framer-

Vintage Bonneville-

Honda Framer-

Yamaha SR or TT500

Cheney (not sure if it's any relation or not)

Old and New Bonnies

Tidy XR (flare through use of crosshatch filter on 50mm lens)

Anyway, it was a real family feeling event, the weather forecast had been bad so apparently numbers were down, but we still had a great day. Enjoyed some hot dogs, burgers and ice cold Bud too. Living the dream.

It was a well needed break, and the g/f and I both felt better for having it.
Got to see Discovery make it's final landing at the Space Centre too, which was probably the emotional highlight of the trip.
Some pics from KSC-
