I thought I'd start a generic thread and see what happens...

Anyone got any new or obscure old bands that they can recommend?

I've already mentioned "Left Lane Cruisers" for those who like loud music.   :)

If you add each other on spotify you can share music through that...

type into the search bar

spotify:user:[username]

For me - spotify:user:[hangmanjury]

Quite like looking through peoples play lists and finding something great you've not seen before...

I tend to just queue up track depending on how am feeling, rather than have a playlist as such.

Do you mean 'Animator' by Pull Tiger Tail? I love that track and it's hard to say what's so good about it... my daughter included it on a comp CD for my birthday in '09 and I really liked the song.

The least mainstream tracks on my MP3 thing are Saint Etienne and a couple by Hayseed Dixie. Sad isn't it.

I'm just hoping the band at the Dragon can do better than "Starsky and Hutch", the theme from the Professionals and something that reminded me of a Danish 1970's film that did the rounds of the fifth form on video, but was rather worn from all the rewinding and fast forwarding to/from certain scenes  ;)

At the risk of sounding like a bandwagon jumper, this year's Mercury prize winners The XX are just brilliant. As if that wasn't enough, their remix of Florence and the Machine's cover of the Candi Statton anthem 'You got the love' was a landmark track. It just about sums up the noughties:
A 70s dance classic that was sampled in the 80s, covered by an Indie singer in the noughties and then given a remix that combined spartan breakbeats with a dashing of Dubstep. Confused? Whatever the origins and influences the remixed track is a masterpiece.

(all this written on the assumption that you like dance music and indie  ;))

Ahhh, I was listening to St Etienne the other day... the Fox Base Alpha LP was a fixture in my first married home and I still like their version of 'only love can break your heart'

I not a weirdo that arranges my playlists into "moods".
