Snowing again
« on: December 17, 2010, 09:23:15 AM »
It's coming down heavily here this morning... which is bad news for the couple who wanted me to insulate their loft today  ::)

Oh well, an enforced day off isn't a bad thing.

Yup, 2-3 inches up in New Inn, almost double that in Newport. Had to leave the bike bottom of the hill. Freshly laid untreated tarmac does not provide much grip when covered in plenty of snow. Grr. Got to ride across to the Fens tonight as well.

It dropped to just 3ºC here last night  :o
Sunshine and 12º now, still a bit chilly!

Another walk to work today as the xbr's ignition was frozen AGAIN! Pulled the cover out of the shed the other day only to find the field mice had made a plethora of holes in it.Hope their reflective m3 nest keeps them warm and safe during these long winter months..... ;D

Tried the ride to work this morning and the bl00dy XT died! 6 hours before AA got me home. Now in the shed trying to figure out what's broke.

BTW what's the clues to carb icing? Seemed to be running fine, then acted as if out of fuel before dying. Once sat for a bit, the bike started but wouldn't rev in the throttle. long while later, ran fine (?) but after couple of hundred yards, started acting as if out of fuel again. Leave it, and it ran fine. (before anyone asks, yes I've plenty of fuel)

YES! SNOW!  ;D

Put chains on the rear tyre of my rig, never used them before but thought I'd give them a try in anticipation of going somewhere snowy next month. Can't believe the difference, was going places I didn't think was possible.

Ask GC! If you can tape a notebook cover round the carb and it stops it was carb icing  ;D

Your symptoms would also fit a wet coil in my experience.

The Isle of Wight in January?  :o Now that's taking this winter riding thing to daft levels. Go to Bavaria the beers nicer and there's more to do.

I suspect ethanol content is not helping you Pat. Wynn's 'Dry Fuel' works well, it also helps prevent that water/condensation rusting the bottom out of SRX tanks! GC type hot air scoops fabricated from soft drink cans, pie trays, or bean tins all work. I've also encased the inlet of an AJS 18S with glass wool insulation afore fixing in place with a bean can and jubilee clips. Worked at -15C!

Just been out to the workshop and we have a crystal clear night, a few shooting stars, a moon and -8C. Whilst my mate further north in the snow fields of Ross-shire near Ben Wyvis is already down to -15C. You've had it warm in Wales so far! ;D

Go safe, it's the 'Charioteers' time now! ;D ;D ;D

Toodle pip, Bill.

Rode home at 03:00 this morning. Bit tricky but managed ok. For once the odd car driver was sensible and let me get on with it. Unlike the w****r who over took on the inside on the way into work. Passed my inside handlebar by about a foot.
Xbr went well and didn't miss a beat. The Mitas tyres are in their element at the moment ;)

C**k >:(

Would post piccies but may as well ask me for the moon on a stick.
