Sleeping bag?

Hi, i am always on the lookout of ways of saving weight on the bike, might have to go on a diet soon to really cut down on what i lug about while touring...LOL
So i am looking at my big bulky army issue sleeping bag and thinking i could do something with that? I need smallish packsize and 4 season. Let me know what you have been using and your thoughts.

Snugpak Softie Elite3. It has a baffle in it so it can be widened to accommodate the roomier fellow. Packs down nice and small.

Long ago, I used to use a space blanket (mylar) and a plastic groundsheet rather than a bag and tent  

Perhaps it contributed to my arthritis   .... no it certainly did!

I've got a blinding Mountain Hardware synthetic bag and it packs down way smaller than the army-issue item and is warmer. Cost a bit but well worth it.

Good choice, I stick with the army surplus arctic bag for the winter but the snugpak are undoubtedly better.  Did you get the expander as well ?

In the winter I go for the two thin sleeping bags approach.It seems to work and is easier to pack on the bike than one large bag.

Good choice, I use the old Softie 9 most of the time, swmbo has an Antarctica RE which is HUGE but very very very warm (rated to -50deg!)

Excellent stuff. I too have an army issue bag that is warm but horribly bulky & heavy and most certainly dreadful for backpack hiking. Methinks an 'upgrade' to a snugpak is needed.

I too would recommend snugpak although I find there ratings a tad optimistic - mind you I don't sleep in my boots
