SLR 650 / RD09 ongoing

I came to live in Spain 2003, early 2004 I fancied a big aircooled single so  I bought one of these (cheap for Spain, RFVC motor etc)
Liked the motor, the rest I found to be lardy, top heavy with too many rubber bushes to spoil the feel.
Bought a Buell cheap from UK and left the SLR in the shed.... dragged it out this year and attacked it with the angle-grinder, reduced by 40kgs.
Handling sorted, BT45's great on the tarmac but not so good on gravel and goat sh!t in the bends, decided I needed SuperMoto wheels/tyres but prefered a lower bike to suit the mountain roads where I live, so its phase 3, tried with the old tank and exhaust and works a treat as my Mountain Bike. Now waiting for a pair of "silencers" from Gazelle and some paint and electrics, will be completed by end Sept.....

And how do I get regular sized pics on here ???

Sorted. First time I've used flickr... easy now.

Just trimmed the seat unit down, fitted CBR600 pre-load adjusters to the front, easy cheap job  ;)

It looks like this is improving with keeping.  ;D ;D

Also an ideal tool for Scottish B and C roads, especially those in Stirlingshire!!!!!!

Highland Coo Poo has a particularly gelatinous quality when applied to the bike, but has a lubricant effect upon the tyres. ??? ??? Goat poo a bit more sheep like I think, so more like riding on marbles! :(

Hi Bill, I think the roads in my mountains are very similar to yours... narrow, big drops, often no barriers (my village is 580metres/1630 feet above sea level, but only 20kms and 155 bends from the coast)  :), where you get snow and ice we get crushed olives to make the roads "interesting". :(

One of my favorite summer migrant visitors, also known in some parts as "Aves Diabalo", because of the black plumage and the habit of 'screeming' around buildings and streets at break neck speed in family or colony groups.

We have no villages at that height above sea level, the climate is to severe here in Scotland. This is the highest village in Scotland: Wanlockhead.   A grand place to go for a wee run on a single! ;D

Another problem we have from the west coast fish landing ports, is the oily water that runs out from the back of the lorries carrying the catch to you in España! Really interesting during the herring and mackerel landing seasons! Following one of these lorries can also be an exciting experience! ::) Crushed olives does sound skaty, but at least you can see the stones and skins. Oily water on wet roads just looks like more water, the smell makes all the difference.  ;)

I worked on the 400kV pylons from Longtown, on the border N of Carlisle,  all the way through Cumbria, Lancs, and N wales (Gogledd Cymru, dwy n dysgu Cumraig yn Coleg Menai...sorry, bad spelling) for several years,. Some of it was a laff, winters not: Lakes, Pennines, Snowdonia;  good for summer hols , BAD for winter work and biking outside June/July.  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(.

Dry biking mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm   8) :o ;D :) ;) :D :P

While I'm waiting for the "silencers" to be made, between doing the paintwork, I decided to sort out the wiring to suit the siting of all major components under the tank.



All the old connections were dry crimped and wrapped with tape. I'm soldering and shrink tubing all of them and getting rid of most of the bulky block connectors.

Now, where does the yellow/red wire go  ???

Very nice! What a shock, going from std pic to the black one. And 40kg reduction is amazing!  (tho where do you put lock, chain, overkeks, sandwiches?). The 'Vigor' seemed a particularly non-UK bike in concept, being a big single, but v gentle and relaxed. I believe.  Think you could have started summat with this!  Nice special.

latest: paint done... except I've decided the swigarm needs to be black (later) wiring nearly there CBR600 fork springs and pre-load adjusters fitted, waiting for a zxr400r back shock to drop the rear a little more and firm it up...

Don't need locks and chains for days out here, just for overnight in the street.  ;)
Overtrousers: No, I don't ride on rainy days, there aren't that many here.  ;)
Sandwiches: A tapa with every drink does nicely.  ;)

At the moment the weather is so good that I'm spending time planting my crops rather than working on the bike...
Just a few bits to tidy and repaint the swinging arm in shiny black...possibly use CBR600 clip-ons instead of the VFR750's  ???

99% there, still to set up the suspension for sag etc.... but pleased so far  :)
