Home from Uttoxeter
« on: July 04, 2010, 06:49:48 PM »
Big thanks to all who were at Uttoxeter this weekend.  I had such a great time thanks to meeting up again with a great bunch of people.

All parts of the UK were represented again this weekend, with the welcome return of Ronnie, Chris and Tony from Northern Ireland, and Smudge doing the 500 mile round trip from Scotland.  The usual Welsh and English show contingents were also there again.  We even got Graham interviewed over the site PA.  ;D

Good to meet Steve H and Simmo who turned up today.  Two more faces put to names.  :)

Thanks to Boyd the stove expert  ;)  for the help with the Coleman and thanks to Boyd and Graham for the breakfasts.

The stand was busy - interest in the bikes was huge - it probably helped having Ian's SRX right next to the entrance, as it's certainly an eye-catching bike.

It's great show and a really good relaxing weekend.  It's a pity it's only once a year.

Thanks again guys - hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did.

Roll on Stafford...

Hi all, I arrived home safely probably before some even set off!! I would also like to reiterate everything that Trevor has written.....I had such a good time over the weekend. I felt really honoured that my bike was put in "prime position" on the stand. I was really made to feel a friend rather than just a name on an internet site & it was great meeting all the folks whom up till now have just been that, names without faces to me. Many thanks to Graham who fetched the coffees without any encouragement from anyone. I really enjoyed my first "Thumper Weekend" and hope to see you all again at some time in the near future. A few photos enclosed from our stand.

"3 in a row"

"Twins Reunited"

"Simmo talking and Graham showing interest"

"Trevor showing off his legs"

As Trevor so rightly said.....Roll on Stafford

Ian :)

PS, I have just been sent this additional photo from a friend who attended the show....

Ian :)

What a great weekend that was. The whole thing was relaxed and we had a hoot. The stand was rudimentary, but it went up in about three minutes so it was one less thing to worry about. Ifor brought along his Norton 16H, Boyd his neat 660 Ténéré, Ian his amazing Electric start SRx, Trevor his immaculate SRX and I brought a tatty GB500.

As for the camping, Rick had secured our area by turning up a day early  ;)  I brought my big tent as a mess tent, but the weather was so good all weekend that it was hardly needed. I managed to leave home without the now traditional  "big Carrick stove", but everyone managed and my brother Gareth stepped in with his gas BBQ so that we could cook the half ton of bacon that I had remembered to bring.

There were some amazing vehicles at the show, but perhaps the best combination of vehicles belonged to a bloke who turned up in an immaculate 60s Austin camper, towing an enclosed trailer painted and trimmed to match. In the trailer was a 6-cylinder Honda CBX1000 converted into a Mike Hailwood replica race bike!
I did a Google search and I'm not sure if these are the actual vehicles, but they look identical:

As Trevor said I got called to give an interview with Jim Reynolds over the site PA. He asked about Bruce Pollard, but I had to say that we haven't heard from the Ludlow lout for a while. In fact lots of people asked after him all weekend. Where are you Pollard and how are you?

Friday night's entertainment was provided by a rock and roll band in the grandstand bar, but last night a group of us went into town and drank far too much beer whilst being royally entertained by Ronnie and his never-ending supply of stories and jokes. This morning's hangover was ferocious. Talking of this morning, I was sorry not to have said goodbye to Smudge and Rick, I hope you had safe rides home.

It was great seeing some old faces and it was really good to finally meet up with forum users that we hadn't met before. Simmo wandered along today and introduced himself and then proceeded to tell me one of the funniest rude stories I've ever heard. Top bloke, I'm still laughing.

The drive back to South Wales wasn't too bad, despite the obligatory delay around the M6/M5 intersection. bloody knackered now though

If you look closely at this picture you will see the new side panel decals I picked up at the show for the GB500:

They cost £15 for the pair, but by god they make a hell of a difference to the bike's appearance. Money well spent.

However Ian's mate had the bargain of the day. He appeared with an Enfield wheel that had been rebuilt with stainless spokes (which looked immaculate) and he had only paid £20  :o

Yup, thanks all for a relaxing weekend (apart from the longish rides lol) sorry I was away before the Sunday visitors arrived.
Got home safe about 3.30pm pretty wet and deafened by the gales, but the Skorpion didn't miss a beat so I can't complain  :)

Now to plot the 50th Dragon....  8)

There was an accident in Stafford on the way home so I ended up on the motorway, after a brief blast and a quick "I wonder what she will do moment" I pulled off at Telford to discover I had very little in the way of a front brake. After checking for leaks and finding none I spotted the span adjuster had vibrated loose and was just about to fall out, very luckily not to loose it.
I've also decided that if I had mirrors I would be able to see the big white van with blue flashing lights behind me, fortunately the nice gentlemen inside seemed to have a more important appointment and went off into the distance (I hope).

Watched the Moto2 race last night... flippin'eck!  :o :o :o :o

Any race that can start with a five rider pile up and end with the 8th placed man crossing the line about ten foot away from his cartwheeling bike is the sort of race I like to watch  ;)

Any news on how the cartwheeling rider is? Wasn't it the bloke who was riding as a replacement for an injured rider?

And as for that pit board farce, have you ever seen anything like it?

I'll watch the GP itself on iPlayer tonight.

Tony, Chris and myself had a great weekend at Uttoxeter. Chris even brought his wallet, next year he might open it!  Many thanks to all concerned.
