TT time again
« on: June 04, 2010, 09:20:25 PM »
Yep, I'll be glued to ITV4 this week watching the TT highlights.

Two questions:

1. Why is Guy Martin racing with his bike painted in 60s Honda colours and with no sponsor stickers (is it because no-one can bring themselves to sponsor a Wolverine lookalike?)

2. How much would it cost to the go to the TT for race week (including ferries)? A ball park figure would suffice.

Cheers

Part 2 - thick end of £750 would see you out a week - depending on where you stay, how much yoou drink and which bike you take and throw up the road on Mad Sunday - used to love the TT would love to go back - and or the Manx GP

Not that much, I spend about £400.  Cost the ferry, sleep in  tent, buy your grub from Tesco.  Beer - your choice really.  Steve, Keith and I have slept in a Church Hall in Douglas for about £5 per night but you won't beat that.

I would have thought that the GP would have been more to your taste.

It's all to my taste really, it's got bikes with 'proper' handlebars being caned.

As for Guy Martin, for a taste of his shambolic lunacy, go to http://www.guymartinracing.co.uk and scroll down to a bizarre picture of him on a pushbike. Below that is a 'click to play' link to an interview called 'Guy Martin Chat'. View it to see his seamless progression from best bike ever made to Genghis Khan. Mad as a box of frogs  :D

Boo Hiss, Guy Martin was holding a steady 2nd in the Superbike race until a 30 second penalty was slapped on him for speeding in the pit lane. He came in 4th in the end. He was still riding the best-looking bike in the field though:

Perhaps it's a "Hello Honda, here I am" sort of statement?

tas suzuki tried to sign guy but he insisted on doing own mechanics so turned it down. strong rumour is that they will try again this year.

I have just returned from tt's yesterday(mad sunday) on the island for 8 nights
costs van hire                   £150
ferry                                £470
camping                           £190
fuel                                 £160
spending money                £700 Approx
total                               £1670        per person £417.5

english heritage gives free access to most manx museums etc.
this is for 4 people ie the family it includes a trip on a boat sea fishing and several meals out.
the weather was good except tuesday am where we went to a museum and to the kipper factory.
fuel can be expensive as I was only getting about 130 miles to a tank instead of 185.
I did find out where my bottle ended on the mountain following some race bike at 130 into the bend and suddenly wishing I was 10mph slower as it kept tightening. just shows that the bike is far better than this rider!
Yes the bike wasn't a single but a 1000 fazer, I did borrow an srx for the week as well to sort out for when my brother arrived.
I realise how crap some garage services can be. it was supposed to be fully serviced but brand new tyres a front brake which did nothing then locked the wheel and a back brake which didnt, also chain was so loose it was almost jumping the sprockets interesting riding on wet roads till sorted out, then as much fun as the fazer, if not more.

We all get Heavier as we get Older because there is a lot more information in our heads

Well Guy got a good second place yesterday on the 600. He's still massively annoyed by the previous result (and penalty). He didn't ride into the winner's enclosure and he left the podium early. It turns out that he was slapped with the 30 second penalty after exceeding the pitlane speed limit by only 0.122kph  :(   His demands to see the calibration certificates for the speed readers, etc. was turned down and he's mighty pissed off.

Ian Hutchinson rode well though didn't he?

Its been incredible to watch.  Ok, Guy spat the dummy, but wouldn't you??

.122% error is pretty good in my book.  With any measurements (albeit biological!) I make , that type of error is negligable.  In fact, any measurement I make of anything, I'd think that 0.1% is pretty good.

Hutchie has been fantastic.  Watching last night, I have vowed to go back soon.  I have a mate who marshals, so maybe I'll give that a go...?

Watching Hutchie being interviewed kept on reminding me of someone.. and I realised that he has similar (lack of) interview skills to David Beckham and the high voice to match.  :D

Oi, GC!

Interview skills! ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

Who gives a monkey's chuffter about Hutchie's interview skills GC?  ::) ::) ::)

Both he and Mr Beckham are class at their respective jobs and just get on with it. No fuss, polite, quality tradesmen. Pleasure to listen to and considered.

For "good" interview skills, view any OXBRIDGE brat in Westminster, solicitor or fly by night journo'! Humphreys et al on 'News' programmes >:( >:( >:( All gas, line the pocket and incest!  >:( >:( Vacuous! >:(

If you want really dire interview skills, listen to the majority of football 'managers', especially those from the West of Scotland!!!!!! However, the exception that makes the rule would be Alan Hanson, articulate, sharp, eloquent and with a wry sense of wit.

The only way to see the 'real person', is to take them away from the 'media', get them to do something they enjoy doing and just blether at their speed.

Defending the indefensible in front of a pack of wolverines, with the valves in your head jangling, means you loose the flow! ???

If this gets moved to Jules' page, I understand and apologies to any I have offended, BUT!  ::)

Laphroig required! 8) 8)

Away to 'Sheet alley'!  :) Bill.  :)

I was only saying that he reminded me of Beckham, the same faltering delivery  :(

You're dead right of course, the old Sheene/Roberts era proved that a cheeky confident media image isn't what's required to hang on to your no.1 plate. Same thing again with Mamola and Rainey, Randy was the fan's favourite, but boring old WR did the winning.

I have to confess a little snobbery here, apart from not following the round ball game I cannot abide hearing many footballers/football managers being interviewed,
"The boys done good", "Wur team was.." "Youse have to undertand.." etc etc

AAAAARGGGGH! LEARN TO SPEAK ENGLISH! If foreign rally racing drivers can be bothered to learn enough grammar to be interviewed and make sense what is the excuse in your own language?!?  >:(

(Rant over  :-[ )

See, I really enjoy the post race interviews from the TT, and Hutchie strikes me as a very humble and determined person. In fact I found all the interviews good watching. I have no interest in watching the post GP race interviews by comparison.
