I really HATE computers
« on: May 01, 2010, 10:27:18 PM »

Bloody Vista PC at home won't let me connect to the internet for some reason.  It is driving my wife, my children and therefore me insane.

I have tried everything I can, bloody machine says it is connected to the internet via the LAN, firewall looks okay, wireless laptop connects okay.

How many are driven insane by the bloody things.................

Any ideas out there (shades of Ixion).

Yeeha.  Working, at the cost of every email, favourite, address, useful program etc that I have.

Oh Bugger.

Lucky I had backups - now where did I put them ?

Well I'm less than impressed with Virgin and Google. Merged their e-mail operations with the result that *****y google now thinks it knows where you live and won't give you access to your own Google sites if you've got a Virgin address. Solution after a lot of messing about is to set up a non-virgin non-google address and use that for anything to do with these idiots own systems!

Major panic last night when it broke down again - fixed before the wife got home.

Beginning to think it has something to do with parental controls.

God I hate computers, especially Vista, much prefer Windows 7.

Vista is the work of the devil. I trashed my hard drive on this laptop (on purpose) to get rid of Vista and then loaded XP instead. Took a while to get all the drivers in preparation for the downgrade, but by golly was it worth it. Compaq says this laptop cannot be run using XP, I say Compaq must be off with the fairies as it is most certainly running perfectly well using XP.

Simple rule in this house. Daddies laptop, children have own PC, wife allowed to use desktop machine. One breaks, other options available.

Don't ask me what or how it worked.
