RACIMEX oil temp gauge.
« on: April 06, 2010, 06:43:56 PM »
Has anyone ever seen an oil temp gauge been fitted to an xbr? Mine has a racimex oil temp gauge nestled between the clocks.Though it has never worked as long as i have owned the bike,it is wired into the head lamp then i loose track of where it goes. There must be a thermostat/couple to take readings, there is an odd cable with string covering on that goes into the right front crank case? Also there is a long black wire under the gear lever that has routed to the gauge. ??? looks like it should be the neutral switch.Just guessing.

I've seen oil coolers, but not a tempreture gauge ( has it ever been raced?).  If the odd cable goes straight down the front of the downtube and goes into the right crankcase cover just behind the oil pipe fittings, then its the pulse generator pick up.  Sounds like the gauge may not be connected up - needs a bit of investigating I think! ?? :-\

Got to say its never been raced(far as i know, shes not that kinda girl!!) justa European after market add on that someone many years ago did and worked for a while i guess, as its a nippon Seiko part it ties in with the tacho stuff. The only reason i keep it on at the moment is A. I would like to get it working again...and B.it shakes like a nodding dog as the vibes of the bike go about its business. ;D

Which is most likely why it doesn't work. There should be a wire going into the right hand engine cover for the ignition pick up, got any pics?

It turns out the thermocouple for the oil temp fits into/replacing, the oil sump plug.Wire going to the gauge.Power leads into the headlight.Simple idea..shame the gauge has packed up on mine.Who would have thought of doing that eh? Wonder if you can get a replacement set up?
