But if David Silver have not got it CSM.nl usually have and are very, very fast and efficient. They are however a bit more expensive, how badly do you want it?, how hard is it to find?, same old equation. I have the very last genuine Honda GB400 piston circlip in the world I am told, but what do I do with only one? (It's too obvious Jethro, just leave it there).

As an aside, the local dealer had been a Honda stockist since 1966 (one of the first in the UK), but Honda now insist that their dealers are 'solus' dealers only. The local dealer decided to concentrate on several other marques that he stocks and therefore the capital city of Wales doesn't have a Honda motorcycle stockist. I find it a bit rum that Honda UK were happy to turn their back on a long-standing and mutually profitable relationship for the sake of company policy.

Same here in Perth GC, been a dealer in the town since 196*? The franchised dealer was also the Merc car dealer and lost the franchise, several other dealers applied and were refused as a solus dealer was required. All I've spoken to indicate there is insufficient margin in this to make it worthwhile and who would want to stock the new VFR etc anyway? Discuss on new thread!

My local bike shop was a Honda dealer amongst others for a good few years till the solus thing came along. They told Honda to shove it and Honda had to send two rather large lorries to take their stock away that very day! sounds like a bit of dictatorship  to me..but what do I know??

And a nice length of chain between the two, or use fine fishing line and do some magic tricks to entertain her.

My local dealer used to do Honda and Triumph (plus a couple of other marques), but both Triumph and Honda decided they wanted solus dealers, so now they've had to take on other makes to fill the showroom up, and the nearest Honda or Triumph dealers are about 15 miles away.

I was wondering how Fowlers were still Honda dealers when they still sell Suzuki Yamaha etc. Apparently the Honda dealership is in a different building to the rest and the Honda link on the Fowlers web-page page takes you to another web-site (www.fowlershonda.co.uk) so presumably the Honda dealership is considered a different company. Interesting approach but most dealership wont have the resources to be able to do the same.

Guard at attention in bare skin hat being a good starting point! I've even been known to do this magic trick without using the c0ck ring and fishing line, but then you probably didn't want to know that.

There is an advantage to a well stocked local dealer in that you can go in for something to do something odd - like I am after CG brake arms for a yamaha TLS, would prefer the Ymaha parts or nice ally ones BUT I do not know the numbers, I do know CG ones fit.  Can rootle about or he helpful storeman can look.  Dave Silver are great if you know what you want / have a VIN / Part Number, they have been unable to help if I ring with the above problem - What is the frame number of the bike sir - no sir that is not a CG that is a CB100 - nope it is a CB 10 frame with CG running gear and engine - they are the same frame, sorry sir I cannot get the part unless you have a `VIN or the part number, etc.  Sorry sir I need the VIN for the CG as the arms are diferent or might be, etc etc etc.

However it does seem that the tendency for people to not keep old bikes (over 5 years old) do their own work etc means that dealers do not carry stock - even basic stuff like filters, and order it in for you - so as GC said, why not order it for yourself and get it delivered?

I dislike the idea of ging to the (eg) local book shop, browsing their stock and finding a book you like, going home and ordering it from Amazon - because it is cheaper - you have used the facility value of the bookshop, pay for it.  But a dealer who does not carry stock, or who wil not deliver it for free when DS / Crooks / Fowlers etc will does no offer anything of added value.
