Honda parts

My local dealer has stopped selling Honda and I no longer have an easy way to order parts. Can anyone suggest a good on-line source for Honda spares?

I'm still using David Silver but I don't know if they're still good value or not  :-\ they're certainly efficient and easy!

CMS.nl - I've had good service from them  - On-line Parts Manual to help I/D parts, as well as showing Part Number.  Not cheap, but not excessively expensive - but - be concious of the 19% VAT in Holland, it can add up. You can guess how I know ::)  :-[

The storesman at my dealer said "but if you use on-line parts suppliers then you're not supporting your local dealer and they will go bust".

Yeah right. My nearest Honda dealer is (apparently) in Treorchy, a good one and a half hour roundtrip for me. How can I justify that sort of jaunt to buy a CB500 petrol tank retaining bolt?

I agree with his sentiment, but my time costs money too.

As an aside, the local dealer had been a Honda stockist since 1966 (one of the first in the UK), but Honda now insist that their dealers are 'solus' dealers only. The local dealer decided to concentrate on several other marques that he stocks and therefore the capital city of Wales doesn't have a Honda motorcycle stockist. I find it a bit rum that Honda UK were happy to turn their back on a long-standing and mutually profitable relationship for the sake of company policy.

I didn't know that Fowlers had an on-line operation. What are they like if you need to find the part number, etc?

Tinterweb all the way for me. I used Wimoto for my dommie stuff or David Silver (Crooks for Suzuki)

Did get oil filters and oil from Thunder road, but always found that anything more complicated and they would have to order it in anyway. Couldn't see the point in riding out there asking for something, then being told they'd have to order it and it'll be in on Thursday, going home then coming back the following week. As for ringing beforehand.... well I might as well ring Wimoto and have it shipped directly to me.

Yep, I've chosen to support the entrepreneur who provides good customer care and a fast, efficient parts supply system.

I'll give a third vote for David Silver, always quick and reasonably priced for genuine Honda spares ( £100 for a complete XBR downpipe/silencer until recently).

As for not supporting your 'local Honda dealer', maybe it's just me, but I've found in the past that unless your bike is a CBRZZRRZXFF Firewing or more than 5 years old they don't seem to be that helpful - " you want to repair your bike?? not buy a new one?   ???

Wemoto are good for odds & ends.

( By the way I do make a point of supporting all my local business's when I can, providing that they are helpful and have what I need)

The aforementioned storesman has been heard (on many occasions) to reply to requests for a bike part by saying, "You don't ride one of those do you? they were horrible" :o

An employee at the same dealer viewed my old Arai Quantum full face helmet and said "who left this antique on the counter?"

Oh to live in the hallowed world of disposable income and fashion-led biking.

Dunfermline Motorcycles for all the work I don't do myself and I try to buy all the routine stuff from them as a good workshop is a precious thing!

Another vote for David Silvers here. The number of times that I have had crap service in bike shops over the years makes me wonder how many of them keep trading so I use the internet.
