Should I, shouldn't I?

I've just been offered one of these at a good (very good) price:



6,000 miles on the clock and very clean.

My thoughts are to buy it and sell it on. Any thoughts on likely value?

DON'T DO IT!!

Tax man's comin' knockin' soon matey, save your dosh for him. These things always seem like an easy way to a fast buck, but usually backfire.

If you want to trade in old second-hand bikes (no matter how cheap) only do it with a disposable 'slush'fund' ready to hand, money you don't mind losing/being tied up for a while.

Only my view, and yes I am boring, but I've lost in the past on similar schemes.

As I remember the z250C was a cheapy version of the Z250 Scorpian twin ( nice bike prone to top end problems.  The single was, as I remember OK but nothing special - like may other 250 singles of the time.

Depends on price really - you could sell it on as a good commuter, but you'll have to hang on to it for a while as I doubt many will buy a commuter motorcycle at this time of year! If it's decent nick and cheap it may be worth it

As it is an open referendum on the subject, I vote against the motion. Don't buy it.

I started out on the Z200, basically the same bike but with wire wheels, 50cc less (obviously) and a cable operated disc brake (yes, really!).
I loved it too... but.... 80mph (downhill with a good tailwind) 80mpg and you'll be very lucky if the head isn't rattly, and if it isn't it will sooner or later. (Cam ran plain in the head  ::) ) and spare parts are going to be available as unrestored BSA Goldstars if you find it needs anything  :(

As Pat says, if you can afford to write the cash off then *maybe*, you *might* get lucky and find a keen buyer. BUT I wouldn't expect to make money on it in the short term, just not that saleable imho.

So I'm afraid I'm with the "no" votes. (Especially this close to self assessment time  :o ) Sorry!  :(

i you were after a bike like that you'd get a superdream (slightly inappropriate use of the word 'super') -  reliable and easy spares.

little bikes are good if you buy a cheap runner and use it till it dies, otherwise at best you'd breakeven and at worst chuck it away.

I can't see any profit in this venture unless you know something I don't? The bloke who sold me the MZ (all original, 5000 KM on the clock, nothing worse than a marginally rusty exhaust and slightly dodgy electrics (the guys failure if he wanted to do this for profit) to show for 14 years old) seemed to be a buy-tidy-sell merchant, his next project was a 60's Triumph in the garage. He claimed he'd broken even on the zed, but in the paperwork he provided you could only say he'd broken even if you discounted all the costs like going to Liverpool to get it and an MOT and back tyre he'd put 500 miles on. I just don't think there is anything to be made in commuter bikes.

Now, if you want to buy a Harley tomorrow, give it a good clean, get it MOT'd, put a few new bits of chrome on and flog it in June, I think that's a different matter if the economy picks up.

we've all been indoors a bit too much recently but there's need to go to extremes!

cabin fever? maybe, but lets not make rash decisions just yet ;)
