my tea tastes of plastic

 every time i put a drink in my thermos it tastes disgusting. i've washed it umpteen times and yet the plastic taste remains. i've had it a few years and it used to be okay, but now its just horrible..
 any suggestions?

I used various Stainless Steel flasks for years no taste problems but it is always coffee in my flask.

I heard years ago that one of those tablets that you put in the glass with your dentures overnight was supposed to take away the plastic smell/taste from water containers. Have never tried it so cant say fro definate.... Crusty

Try the stuff you clean babies bottles out with,  I think it was called milton or something like that.

I always soak my thermos flasks and camping water containers with a strong bicarbonate of soda solution. Good for washing the camper fridge too.

It's the new kettle contaminating the water before you put it in.

Carry a small stove instead ?  Tea always tastes better made fresh - coffee can sometimes be okay but they all go stale.  Storing the milk seperately and putting it in later may help.

If not then Miltons is worth a try.

Personally I find the best tea is still made in a teapot with loose tea.  Much more delicate flavour and you can very the strength to suit.

Milton is just hypochlorite - as used in pubs for cleaning out the pipes and by farmers to clean milking equipment - if you know either they may have some.   Can leave a chlorine taste if not washed out well.  Dont let it come into contact with other cleaners either.  Never used it with the kids stuff, love them too much.

Sounds like to me that the actual glass Dewar vacuum flask has broken and fallen out so your tea is going into the actual plastic outer casing, hence the plastic taste.... Did you notice a massive increase in fluid capacity recently? Or even some crunchyness to the tea?

My stainless flask gets used every day, and washed nearly every day  I can't put tea into it, it always comes out tasting of plastic. Coffee is better, but I'd hesitate to offer it to anyone, it's an acquired taste.

As the only plastic part of the whole thing is the stopper/pourer it's hard to see what else to do but grin and bear it.

I sometimes make a jar of real coffee in an espresso pot and carry that in the flask and it tastes better simply (I'd guess) because the coffee is too strong to be messed with. However on those days I can go many hours without blinking.

 its a cheapo flask with stainless outer and plastic inner.

 i've got a feeling i might just end up binning it as the taste is overpowering.
