Talking of lights

I recently fitted a security light to the exterior of my greenhouse. I also fitted the same type of light to the interior of my garage. They are like the ubiquitous halogen security light and PIR, but smaller, each having a 100W bulb.

However, they have both been playing up and staying on for ages longer than usual. The interior one seems to not want to turn off at all atm. Any thoughts?

The light we have is adjustable for brightness and how long it stays on.
Might be worth having a closure look,and possibly reading the instructions closer.

I think the sensor is wankered on the internal light (I've had it years but only bothered getting it working again the other week).

The external light is either just having a fit because of the wind and rain and/or water has got into the sensor.

Having done a google on the subject it seems that most people get better results from a decent separate PIR operating a light rather than the cheapie combined units.

Daylight setting was fine on both of them and they were working perfectly  Having said that, the daylight sensor only controls when the PIR is active, not what sets it off so I'm not worried about that.

I have security lights at front and back of my house, both with separate pir's, the pir's are adjustable for daylight intensity ( i.e. switches on the pir at dusk....when correctly adjusted) the second adjustment is for length of time light stays on when activated.....there is no adjustment for pir sensivity, and i don't see any pir's available with that adjustment.
Both my pir's can be triggered by adjacent branches when windy, and by the dog when he's off out for a slash or checking on the rabbit situation, and these units have been in situ for at least ten years, i reckon on an annual change of lamp element, but touch wood the pir's have been ultra reliable.

Security light on garage installed '94, a B&Q 150W job. Changed the filament once and the PIR bit never been touched. Set up to come on at dusk and stay on for 'X' minutes, no sensitivity adjustment!

At present, in Arctic conditions, the feral moggie turns the light on, as do the roe deer visiting the garden to browse the privet hedge! No, I haven't the rifle to bag one for the pot!  I have the PIR lined up so that waggling branches and passing cars etc don't provide a disco lighting show.

With still a 30cm snow cover in many places and temp falling to -14C and our mains water supply going 'pop' last night  , may I wish you all good health for 2010 and safe motorcycling, wherever and whenever you may venture forth.
