I think this picture neatly illustrates how much the suspension has been lowered, the bike looks very upright on its sidestand now:



Which reminds me, I'm supposed to be sorting out getting the stand cut and welded for him... will have to ring young Simon83 later.

The dealer fitted a 50mm lowering kit for me which makes all the difference. It feels about the same height as the DR now. With the additional weight of luggage it should be even better. At the end of the day, it fits most of my criteria. Being able to get my feet fully flat on the floor would have been an added bonus.

The bike also seems easier to paddle even though on paper it is heavier than the DR. I wonder if more of the weight is lower down?

I've done a few slight modifications since I took the photo. Oxford Hotgrips are now fitted and the GPS mount and my faithful top box (complete with Dragon, Elephant, Tauerntreffen, etc. stickers) transferred from the DR. I've got some hand guards on order to make it a bit more crash proof and to reduce the width of the handlebars by changing the original bar end weights with smaller ones. The bar end weights are probably the only thing I don't like about the bike! I'm hoping my, as yet unused, muffs will fit over the handguards.

As Graham has pointed out the bike does sit quite upright on its side stand now that it's been lowered. The instructions that came with the lowering kit suggest about 20 or 25mm needs to be removed from the stand. Ideally, I'd like to get a wider foot plate welded back on when this job gets done.

I'm really looking forward to the Tibbie Shiels weekend to see how it gets on!

i havent seen one of these in the flesh yet so im looking forward to sheilds too. not what i would have(cafe racer) but still looks really cool, i love the front. do you get much wind pertection???the paint is cool as!!!

Did you also drop the forks through to maintain the rake on the forks?
I would advise 25mm off the sidestand and then get an alloy camels foot plate.
KTM handguards are the way to go as the Yam ones are silly prices.
I have SRX bar end weights which allow the Tucano muffs to go on and off really easily but I have had to remove the wind protection from the KTM guards, just have an unmodified pair for the summer.

I haven't done much distance on it yet, but the wind protection seems pretty good so far. I'll have a better idea on the trip up to Tibbie, especially as there'll be quite a bit of motorway stretches.

Very happy with the Tenere so far! An ideally substitute for the DR, I think.

The DR has gone to Silverfox (GCs brother) who's already stripped it down and will no doubt get it back on the road pretty soon. Graham posted some pics in the projects section recently.

I'm happy it's gone to a good home and is getting the attention it deserves. Unfortunately, I don't have the time/skills/garage space to do it myself.

Sad to see it go, but sometimes it's just better to move on.

Yep and I have one also. The fuel injection is superb and I would challenge anyone to feel the difference. One of the reasons is that the airbox is now huge and the engine management has been changed. NICE ;D

I must admit that this being my first fuel injected bike (and Yamaha come to think of it) I am finding it a little strange compared to previous bikes. Nothing to significant, but I have noticed a slight hesitation at around the 4k rpm mark.

I also cracked the throttle open on a familiar road as I would do on my KTM and the bike bogged down. I noticed the revs had just gone into the red when I looked down, so possibly it was a rev limiter or some other electronic trickery telling me to not be so daft!

The bike does pop when throttling off at walking speed as well.

Nothing too distracting with the above though and I guess it is just something I need to get used to. Thinking about it a bit more I think I notice these things when I'm either being gentle with the throttle (slight movement on or off) or when I crack the throttle open quickly. Perhaps it is the electronics being slow to react to my inputs?

He's actually going to be pretty Static this week because as I type his sidestand should be travelling down the M4 in the boot of my brother's car. We will be getting it cut and welded here in Cardiff and Simon is coming down on Thursday for my brother's birthday curry and he can refit it then, prior to our ride to Tibbie Shiels on friday.
