MuZ 660/ Yamaha question
« on: August 31, 2009, 03:55:49 PM »
Last Thursday a small hiccup developed on the MuZ. Before I pull it apart someone may have had a similar problem, and can offer advice as to the root of the problem.
When changing down from fourth the gear leaver stays down. It has since been noticed in other gears every now and then, but consistently in 4th.
My gut feeling is the return spring on the selector shaft, but why does it come back up albeit slowly most of the time. Anybody, any ideas?

Aye Kurt,

Will need to ponder, ???  but I'm being driven to splitting cases!  :(

Let us know how you get on and I'll post if a light comes on in the near future ???

All the best for Spring in your neck of the billabong!

Regards, Bill.

Thanks Bill, Spring has sprung,
with rainfall and icy cold winds at only around 15 C...  I predict a very cold winter for the northern hemisphere.
I'll have to eke it out with a tardy lame spring till I can get some annual leave after Christmas if the cases need to be split. On some of the older Suzuki's it was possible to slide the shifter arms out from under the RH cases. maybe I was clutching straws in the hope of a quick fix. At least then I will be able to add a few things like oil cooler and wings and parachute.
I'll have to chase up Andy about that fitting.

Hey Kurt,

Can't help you on the return spring idea, but you may well be right.

Drop me a line if/ when you want that hose + crankcase fitting:

Whale
OIL
Beef
Arkt,
(say it as a sentance and with a yankee accent!)

Having a tinker I noticed the bolt holding the dooverwhacky to the gear shift shaft was a little loose allowing the shaft to travel backwards and forwards along its axis. After centering and retightening the symptom for now has disappeared. Sometimes the simplest answer etc etc
