Insurance time
« on: August 16, 2009, 07:29:30 PM »
Insurance time again for the XBR.   Renewal quote was for a 2 bike policy but I've now sold the GN so I went online for a new quote with my current insurer and the other major bike insurer. Quote for the XBR with CN was £110 TPFT which I thought a bit high as they only wanted £123 for 2 bikes!

Went on B's site, imputing exactly the same details and cover - £61!!! over 40% cheaper!!

Out of curiosity, I changed the quotes on both sites for Fully comp ( which I haven't had for years as it was always expensive) to my suprise it was only £1 and £7 more respectively than TPFT!!

Needless to say I now have fully comp for £68!..bargain.

Just shows you need to shop around!  (saved £170 on my car insurance earlier in the year!)   ;D

 i used www.gocompare.com.

i used the quotes to get my current insurer to knock £80 off the renewal. its funny how their best quote was £330 until someone else quoted less. thats the kind of loyalty they give you for giving them my hard-earned every year for the last 8 years.

my van insurance went down from £400 to £280! still too much though.

One delight this year was trying to get van insurance and having to tell disbelieving little twats that yes I am 44 years old and no, I haven't had a car policy in my name for over 15 years.

Luckily Direct Line insure me as a named driver on my wife's policy and they were quite good on price too so they did a little deal but I'm still paying over £250 Fully comp.

Whilst we're talking about vans let me tell you about my brother's new van. He has bought a VW T4 Transporter that had been partly converted to a camper van. The price started at £2,400, but in his typical way he ended up paying £800  :o He drove it up to Omegaman's place on Friday to pick up some bits and he reported that it drives really well. He also told me that the little television that was included with the van works really well, as does the state of the art cd/radio which accepts Ipods, mp3s etc. He's also pleased with the van fridge, camping stove and full awning. He really is the jammiest git I know.

i was once told my van insurance was so high because i had no experience of a commercial vehicle (escort van, very large and difficult to drive).

Five seconds earlier i'd told them that i was an HGV driver. So £80'000 450bhp and 44 tons is okay, but not a 45bhp escort van.

do they just guess at the premiums?
