Well Saturday, as you know... I didn't go to work  I went to the Bob Macintyre memorial race meeting at East Fortune airfield instead, met up with Bill, drooled over some gorgeous thumpers, got mildly deafened and generally had a great time

Sunday, I went across to Fordell Firs campsite and showed Scouts some amatuer radio, a pretty good day, although some Scouts are less likeable than others!  But at least the majority were good 

Then came back and washed the bike, tightened the exhaust mounts which had worked loose and found out the horn bracket had sheared off  presumably vibration induced... so tonights task is to nip into the garage and find an alternative mounting point for it.

Saturday spent on domestic duties. Have promised wifey I'll nibble away at the jobs around the house one day of the weekend if the other can be spent playing. Seems a fair trade to me and (luckily) her too.
This morning I took #1 son for a spin after ringing GC and arranging to meet at Cowbridge cafe for a cuppa and look at the shiney bikes. Very pleasant morning and some lovely machines to gawp at. (Thanks for the tea too GC, my round next time).
Spent this afternoon having a tidy up in the shed and scratching my head over my project bike Abigail. I haven't taken a spanner to her in months so decided to pick up a part from the parts bin and fit it ASAP. Next week then I shall be stripping and polishing the front brake master cylinder assembly. Oh what joy!
Finally I've just come in from the garden where me and the boys have had a massive BBQ feast! Belly's are fit to burst and my arms barely reach the keyboard! Bloody great!

Stayed at a little campsite on the Wye in Hoarwithy just outside Hereford used mainly for canoeing and kayaking(allowed real fires and they supply firewood), quite scenic with nice Italian style church and nicer pub, some good real ales and Hoegaarden on tap.

Went off into Hereford on Saturday to 'The Barrels' (brewery pub) and watched the Lions game over a few pints. Belly full of BBQ food and a few more drinks around the fire when we got back.

Saturday - took Miss Whiplash for her last ride and came back with Guinevere the GN400.  Spent Saturday afternoon touting round insurance firms to get a deal whereby I get cover for the GN and the XBR, while number one son gets added onto the list for  just the GN.  Why is it that if you have 2 separate bike policies, you can only apply accumulated no-claims to one of them?  Are they saying you're more of a risk on one policy than the other?  Better stop this line here or it'll end up in Rants.

Sunday - lazy morning spent watching Julian Simon make a right prat of himself after a cracking 125cc race, then pushed my heart rate up with the Rossi/Lorenzo last lap shenanigans - excellent stuff.  Afternoon it pi$$ed down, so I mooched around the shed squaring a few bits'n'bobs away - waiting on parts for Arfur, should be here this week sometime ...... next weekend's debrief could be a more action packed tale of flying spanners and roaring singles - watch this space.

Went out with the family on Saturday to a local National Trust property where they were supposed to be holding a kite flying event ( one of my other hobbies).  As it turned there were not very many there and very little wind so we spent the afternoon having a look around the gardens which all seemed to enjoy.  On Sunday I took the XBR over to Lincoln for their annual 'Bikefest' event. Warm and sunny weather meant that loads turned out - largely big Jap fours and Harley's - lots of squeaky leathers and bandanas.  Didn't see many other thumpers - a 650 Sachs and a couple of Enfields although the parking was spread across several car parks so I may have missed some. They had a cracking band playing all afternoon - 'The Firing Squad' if you ever come across them. One interesting bike was a little green Cagiva which on first glance looked 'odd' but I could quite figure out why.. On closer examination behind the fairing, it had been coverted to Electric...so no exhaust!  Left after a couple of hours and took the long way home.  All in all a pretty good weekend.

Had friends staying so - Fri night late on the wine and blather.  Sat Swimming with No2 whilst Jen, the boys and Bastian went to Mumbles and French, No2 and I met them there for coffe and thence over to Carreg Cennen - stormed the castle yet again, letched at the young bride who was having a reception in the large barn and kept thanking some of the guests - bet they thought I was a mad man.  They were squaddies and sailors, anyone willing to potentially put it ALL on the line in the protection of my boys deserves thanks, even if they have no idea what for!  Sat evening fired up the paella machine and paella and more wine till late evening.  Sunday on the beach and dinner in the beachside resturant.

Had a pretty good weekend myself. Picked up the CBF1000 on Saturday morning then did about 150 miles on it around the Scottish borders.

On Sunday morning I took my 13-year old son out for his first proper pillion ride and we visited the classic bike racing at East Fortune. Despite the poor weather reports the weather was really sunny and hot (to the extent that I got sunburnt) - it did start raining on the way home but I'd just wheeled the bike into the garage when the heavens opened and the torrential downpour started (including thunder and lightning).

Sights, sounds and smells were great at the bike racing - a good day out for only a £10 entry for the pair of us.

It also happened to be by far the noisiest bike there!

Why is it that if you have 2 separate bike policies, you can only apply accumulated no-claims to one of them?  Are they saying you're more of a risk on one policy than the other?

I used to have a multi-bike policy through Carole Nash which pretty much worked at the same price as the insurance would have been on the most expensive to insure single bike (CBR600).

When I came to re-insure multiple bikes again at the end of last year it worked out cheaper to put them on individual policies, even though only one of those actually had no-claims on it.

I had Miss Whiplash & Arfur on a multi-bike with the AA, but you can't add a named rider to a multi-bike apparently, so I had to split down to 2 separate policies.  Then chuck in the fact that the lad is 19 and, even though he's got 3 years no claims in his own right, the price goes through the roof unless I push my no claims across to this policy.

Of course that means that my main policy (for Arfur) now has no no-claims and, you guessed it, the price goes up!  Only by £30, but that's a few (well, a couple) tanks of dino-juice I could put to good use!

It is a beaut isn't it? Mind you, you can't have heard the Adler two-stroke... the Hondas were very loud, but the Adler was painful to stand next to!

Somehow I don't think the marshals bother with a db meter up there

A fineweekend by anyones standards ; Mark , a chap I met some eight years ago when on holiday in Crete with the Memsahib ,travelled over on Friday . Left his house in Co.Antrim 05:15hrs Fri and was with us on Friday afternoon at 16:30hrs .Travelled via Holyhead and then down through Wales over Snowdonia.His Aprilla Pegaso didn't miss a beat and he was chuffed to beans with the ride. Friday night saw us in the local and we were a bit unsteady on our return in the early hours of Sat .
Saturday , I took him out for a tour of the local sights and then the afternoon saw us at GC's for a barbie{grilled food , not small doll  }Gc , to be fair did us proud and there was much playing by the children and lots of good food and drink all round . Made our way back to the local , but retired earlier than the previous night ,due to chronic fatigue 
Sunday saw us up and about . Mark left at about 10:30 ish and made his way back up the A470. I dragged the Xs out and myself and Memsahib trundled off to the local cafe . Bumped into GC who was just leaving and missed Pat altogether . A sausage and egg bap and coffee later we made our way back .Quite a spirited ride saw me ground the Xs on the exit to one of the roundabouts en route,something I haven't done for a while . Mesahib picked up on this , during what was quite a structured de brief ,post event. Back to GC's for the evening and a second BBQ .

Not to worry ,Pat . We were kept amused by the corporate Harley Lookalike lot .However a chap turned up on a cracking Harley cafe racer ,very nice .
