Can I have my Dommie back??
« on: June 13, 2009, 09:02:41 AM »
Owned the VX now for 4 months, done 4.5k miles and was shocked to see I'd worn out the rear rubber. Front is fine and a very nice Dunlop roadsmart it is too, so I decide to match the rear up instead of fitting another 'cheapie' Maxxis (fitted by the garage when I bought the bike ~ never felt right ::))

BLIMEY £120!!!

My old dommie felt great on Avon Distenzias at £94 the pair from M&P. The rear would do the best part of 9K with the front lasting twice as long.

Just hope the new rear lasts better than the Maxxis, (write-up says they do) or I'm up for £360/year just in back rubber and don't start me on other costs! (air filter £25 each (X2) last less than a year by my milage)

 :'( :'( :'(

'REPENT YE Brother Squirrill for thy hath fallen from the righteous path of the single pot and so now be cursed to a mortal life of bald tyres and empty wallets.  Return ye now to the light of the one true piston and reject all that is multi cylindered before ye are forever damned to an eternity of reading the cursed text of MCN and wondering if knee sliders would look good with your Rossi lookalike leathers ........Amen'

You can still turn from the Dark Side - I happen to know where there's a fine example of the Dommie breed, just arrived for sale in Aberdeen.  Yes, Miss Whiplash the Dominatrix has left my shed, to be replaced by .........

Guinevere the GN400

Lovely little thumper, great for cruising the back roads when I'm not in a hurry.

Now all I need to do is get her hubby (Arfur the XBR) out of the sick shed (parts should be here by next weekend).

Pat and I discussed this on the weekend and he contends that the recommended VX fitting is a radial, whereas I reminded him that I owned a VX and I would never pay for radial tyres (and I certainly didn't fit 'em to mine).

Anyone know the answer?

Here's another piccy of Beryl:

I never noticed that sign before, quite amusing  :D

Cheers

Yep, genuine Jurassic-era Craven - just needs more stickers for that true period look .... anyone got some they need rid of?

Tell me about it! Live and learn with that design feature. Beryl was my first attempt at building a special and suffered from lack of knowledge and skill on my part. That said it was fun to do and kept me out of mischief for a while. With the latest project bike (Abigail) I'm being a little more fussy with the result that not much isactually getting done. ::)

Came back from my jaunt on Sunday enthused by the bikes I'd seen and told my boy to "Get anything out from Abigails parts bin" He picked the front brake master cylinder/lever. IT WILL BE SORTED AND FITTED BY THE END OFF THE MONTH! Project back on line I'd say ;D

Had the new tyre fitted today. Surprizingly it wasn't fitted by vigins and didn't come delivered on a mink fur pillow. So I wondered what was I getting for my kidney??

Well it fits the wheel and is legal, steering seems positive and cats eyes/white lines/manhole covers didn't disturb it too much even though it's squeaky new (felt better under my arse than the old rubber ever did to be true). Coming weeks I'll push it a bit and test it out properly, then all I need is for it to last for 16k and it'll all be worth it. ;D

I'm hurt, surely a fella can say something is nice without having an ulterior motive? Of course if he'd said he wasn't keeping it I would have weighed in with an offer, but that's just polite isn't it?  ;)
