Lots of cool stuff, well spotted that man.

Unfortunately I can't rip any pics because the site has some tricky image protection code  >:(

Aha! but that didn't stop me from doing a screen grab, cropping the image in Photoshop, saving it as a Jpeg on my hard drive and then uploading it to my webspace:

That'll teach the tetchy jap webmaster to be uptight about image copyright protection.

Yep, I tried that and my 'save image' option was still greyed out  :(

Hence the workaround.

Don't even start me on browsers. I am still running Win 98 and this is starting to restrict my choices of software versions and updates. I use Opera as a my browser of choice, but this isn't supported by Ebay or one of my banks so I have to use IE as well (and an old version at that).

I can't download a version of firefox compatible with Win98.

I suspect I will have to buy a new PC sometime very soon.

GC - I have just started looking at doing some work for a local company who salvage computers from businesses etc and then sell them on at a reasonable cost. (£50 for a windows box) not sure if they can sell to the public or if it has to be through the various schemes, would you like me to ask what sort of box, price etc they may be able to do you.  I know there is a legit copy of Windows on each but I am not sure what plus a legit copy of Office - but you have that any way.

My current box contains the following
AMD Duron processor
224MB ram
Drive C - 38GB

What's the ideal sort of processor and RAM levels that I should be running these days?

A typical PC I would order for work nowadays would have:

Intel Core Two Duo processor @ 2.6Ghz
2Gb RAM
250Gb hard disk

At home I get away with an Acer Aspire One netbook:

Intel Atom processor
1Gb RAM
120Gb hard disk

Perfectly fine for web surfing and other bits and bobs.  Only problem is the small screen, but you can always connect to a larger monitor if you want to.

You can pick these up for less than £200 new with Linux, or £250 with Windows XP.

Cheers for that.

On a slighly related issue, my connection speeds using speedtest.net show as:
0.93mbs download
0.17mbs upload

I'm on a 1MB line (I think).

Why the disparity?

If you're on ADSL the A parts stands for A-synchronous.  ADSL is always faster downstream than upstream.  You need SDSL if you want them both the same.
