Newbie intro
« on: May 06, 2009, 12:39:55 PM »
Hello all,

Registered to the forum a couple of weeks back and have been following the threads so I thought now is the time to introduce myself.

I briefly met Graham and probably a couple of you on the way to the Dragon rally this year. You pulled over to see if you could help me and my mate out with his tatty little B25.(I was on my MT350). I also spoke to Gareth in M and P accessories one day and he mentioned this club.

Having ridden for 30 years I have just got hold of a rough old SXR6, a model I have fancied since a mate bought one new all those years ago. I may have to get some advice off some of you as this is new territory to me.

I have also just picked up an old Aprilia 600 of which I'm hoping the rotax engine is good so as to fit it in the MT.

Regards, Mark.

Fatal mistake! Once you've met Onepot that's it, you'll be hooked on the constant stream of meaningless drivel just like the rest of us and spend your time thinking 'I really ought to get a life (in my case get on with my work  ;) ) instead of wasting countless hours on the Thumper Club forums'.

Still, keeps us out of mischief, well most of us anyway!

Welcome to the madness and mayhen that is 'The Thumper Club'  :P

Incidentally XBR passed the MOT today - hoorah! 23 years old and still going strong.

Welcome Mark . Had many an adventure on the MT350 .Nice package , but always felt they should have left it as an electric start 500 .Knew a few people who knee capped themselves on the panniers at the front , when off road .

We do like to have a chuckle here , feel free to banter .

Rob .

Hello Mark,

Welcome to the nut house.

I had a play with an MT at Catterick (was supposed to be teaching truck stuff, talk about telling granny how to suck eggs!). The Army seemed to view the kickstart as some sort of exercise/punishment device. There was a trick to playing with a pressed tin plug cap to get it going if memory serves?

Hi Mark and welcome.

Smart move seeking to fit a Rotax where a Rotax has been - rather than where a Yam motor has been - who stole the chain and put it THERE!@!!!

Hello again, glad to see you've wandered over to join in the fun.

How is your mate's B25(SS?) is he going to sort the wiring out?

A 600 in the military bike would be good, does it look to be an easy fit?

Cheers
GC

Cheers for the welcome.

Yeah, my mate is continuously sorting the B25 out. Wiring, kickstart, ignition, oil leaks etc., etc.

The 600 rotax motor looks like a straight swap(nice and easy, just how I like it) so will be getting that done as soon as poss., this week hopefully as I've got a bit of down time while I recover from my lastest operation....and I got made redundant last week so probably more down time than I think.

Bugger on the redundancy

Looking at my parts book the crank cases are just the same - the 350 having a shorter throw crank,  So the overall height may be less.

Have seen some write-ups on short stroke "500's" made from a 640 barrel and a 350 crank, not sure how useful or how much work this would be particulaly in an MT

Thanks for the info, quite reassuring.

Stripped the Aprilia today and cleaned up the engine, only wrecked a couple of exhaust studs getting it out (job for tomorrow). The Del'awful carb is gummed up to f**k so that will take some sorting.

Mark.
