For those of you who understand English....
« on: May 05, 2009, 05:53:47 PM »
Hi

Alliteration - 3 or more words starting with the same letter in a row - ie Sing Something Simple, Cool Calm (and) collected etc.

Onomatopoeia - Formation of words or names from sounds resembling that associated with the object - bang, cuckoo, sizzle etc

Now I was sure there was a name for something like "the Slithery silver snake slithered silently by the shore" where the words themselves are not onomatopoeic but the feel of the sentence is and it does not appear to be alliteration to me.

There is the famed poem about the train that steams and chugs along witht eh motion of the train too.

Any ideas?

And for those of you who can read and not feel the need to take the piss out of something - it is a typo "with the".  So my touch typing is not as good as yours - I am so sorry.  Serious question that I thought someone on here may know.

Basket weaving - naaah leave that to the OTs  ;D

I have to admit that I hadn't heard of such a thing, but it makes sense. I'm sure there must be a word for the device, but I suspect it is, more often than not, used by people with Brian Sewell voices.

Time for a 'net search methinks.

Well, it's sort of both isn't it?
It must be allitomatopoeia
