When I made demountable sidecar mounts for Smudge's XBR I used the existing bolting points on headsteady and front engine mounts to fit a little subframe from which the chair was mounted. There was a clamp on the downtube, but this wasn't the sole clamping point and was therefore less stressed.

The rear mount was also a subframe that used existing bolting points.

Auxilary fittings were taken from other point on the lower frame rail.

I' d just like to point out that although I did the plans and cut all the metal I didn't do the welding. This was done by a colleague of Julian's and was superb work.

GC,

Just seen your reply sorry for not aknowledging(?) don't know how I missed it.

Nice to see what can be done. I'm looking for a chassis to go with the velorex body you know for. Can't find one yet but there are a couple of complete ones on ebay at the mo. Just the distance putting me off.

Thanks,

Mark

That Velorex outfit fetched £820!

If I didn't know better, I'd say sidecarring is getting more popular  :o

I spoke to the seller today and he said the bloke who bought theVelorex is intending riding it around Ireland, following in the wheeltracks of a family member who did a similar ride on an outfit in something daft like 1909.
