Motorcycle "Aprons"
« on: April 15, 2009, 08:18:50 AM »
One for the Elefanten / Taurentreffen crowd possibly...
I've seen aprons (like handlebar muffs for your legs if you haven't seen them!) used by continental riders and thought they could be a very good thing for winter riding, does anyone know of suppliers or have patterns / designs for them?
Oh and keep your fingers crossed for me.... the Mastiff is in for MOT today  :o (and a shop service so the credit cards going to get hammered again  ::) still, if you find a good workshop then use it or lose it!!)

Mr Metcalf, between mixing spectacular dry martinis, has found time to make his own apron and I have to say it looks very cosy.

I think Baglux make 'em and Tucano.

I have an old flowery apron of my Mums somewhere and an old Victorian lace maids apron - any use to you?   ;D

Thanks Steffan, couldn't see anything but will keep looking. Mind you home made is probably closer to my budget!  ;)

"an old Victorian lace maids apron - any use to you? " only on the "special" weekends Rog  ;) :o

Picture of mine, down at the bottom here:

https://sites.google.com/site/threewheelbonnie/cold-places/heated-kit

It was from Motobinns and was designed to fit an Airhead BM of some sort. Has a little tank bag with a police insignia and Italian or Spanish name. I'm guessing the latter as the former would use Guzzis?

All I did was cut out the filler cap hole and sew a section in to get it where the Triumph takes the juice. If you can get one it's an easy mod to fit any sort of standard shaped bike if you've got a sewing machine license.

Happy to draw round the sections or take more photo's if you fancy a bit of sewing.

Andy

PS: Adding metal studs, tassles, lace, embroidered flowers etc. I'm afraid you are on your own with!

Whoo-hoo!! MZ has an MOT again  ;D (and naturally it's about 9 deg and overcast now  ::) )

Had a good hunt about the Motobins website and can't see anything, if anyone spots them please let me know  ;)

Andy, nice website btw :) I finally remembered why I've been told in the past that asprin (to thin the blood) is a bad thing in cold conditions (after racking my brains all afternoon lol). When you thin the blood it increases blood flow to the peripherals which sounds good.. except that it then speeds the cooling of the core body, exactly what your system is trying to avoid. One of the reasons, alongside dehydration, why alcohol is bad in very low temps.
Whilst that is only from my foggy memory and I'm no expert that's why I would advise against it unless there was a good medical reason.
Quite right about the hot chocolate though, that's what we tend to drink between dives. Fizzy pop is best avoided for the same reasons as coffee / tea as I'm sure you know already.

Oh and as for adding lace / flowers etc, I'm not the one attending rallies in elbow length silk evening gloves  :P ;D (mind you I might be if I can find a set in a charity shop somewhere!  :D)

Bloody fantastic site Andy. How come you haven't mentioned it before (or is Alzheimers kicking in on my part?)

Last time I enquired , Motobinsworks  had sold out with no idea when they were getting more .This was in November last year ish .
On the subject of aprons , I think the traditional pinny has a lot going for it . I prefer a 'Man about the house ' number . Bra and knickers clad image on full length apron thing .Best worn naked of course wearing matching grey mid calf socks . Ideal for the hoovering .

My god that brings back a nasty memory - Mad Andy of the Rother MCC at one of their rallies cooking breakfasts for the hords dressed in nothing but a pair of boots and a white chefs apron....  He was neither drunk nor listening to Freebird at the time either so that excuse goes ni-ni
