Att. Acting CO General Felching.

Saturday am, took family to local 'lounge' for recce and brekkie stop
Ordered two breakfast muffins, three coffees, a hot chocolate and an orange juice, cost £18.70! However, nosh was good and a welcome change from the Naafi fare we endure at HQ stop
Saturday afternoon, pulled Wasp sidecar from stores and set about it with 't-cut' stop
Took photos of Wasp and placed it on Ebay stop

Sunday am I had some friends, including BJ, over for brunch stop Watched our assorted kids destroy garden whilst I actually made myself ill by drinking too much coffee stop
After first group had departed I rec'd a visit from RobG's wife and hyperactive son stop Drank more coffee stop Sunday pm, sloped off to pub with RobG, BJ and assorted bikers stop One fella had put his back out the night before whilst fornicating with a much younger woman stop Showed requisite level of sympathy (none) and much humourous banter was enjoyed by all stop

Wasp status - starting bid placed within 12 hours so very pleased stop Its departure will free up room in the garage to allow me easy access to the GB and XBR I have to build to sell stop

Two bikey things achieved Sunday. I finished stripping Dolly down. Frame, rear sub frame, swing arm & rear shock to go on ebay tonight and that'll be the last of her :'(

Then I balanced the carbs on Lucy. She behaved beautifully, so was treated to a wash and polish.

Think that might be why it's p1ssing down now >:(

Saturday got up EARLY before marching through Glasgow in the rain  ::)
Was talked at by the Lord Provost and various others before meeting Smudge senior and swmbo and partaking of free (yes free!) beer  ;D
Got on (uncomfortable, cramped) coach and travelled to Nottingham area, arriving about midnight...
Sunday got up 0600 ("Good Morning Vietnam will explain what the "0" stands for..) in order to commence hurrying up and waiting all day. 2200 onto coach to Glasgow and onwards to Edinburgh then Dunfermline..  :-\
Arrived home 0600ish this morning, somewhat tired, cannot imagine why...  ;)
Now suffering from onset of cold / man flu but bearing up due to being on holiday for the next month at least  ;D 8)
Just got to repair/mot/work on almost everything I possess now!  :o

Spent Saturday in the ongoing battle with the garden, demolished several hedges in a futile effort to get more light/sun/rain onto expanded veggie patch....the intention being a somewhat more self sufficient/ healthy lifestyle.
Sunday, decided that A) #4 SRX needed a big cleanup/service as I shall be riding it to the NW200 with the intention of selling it there or on Ebay immediately afterwards.....and B) #1 SRX, which has been sulking due to my preference for riding #4....would need a fair bit of attention as it will soon be my only road bike again....fixed the indicators (for the bluddy TRILLIONTH time!!)...welded chainguard brackets back onto swingarm (again)... stripped and painted swingarm, cleaned and regreased chain, fitted new bearing in sprocket carrier....reassembled sunday night....#1 starting to look like she should. a pleasing weekend, even if i didn't turn a bike wheel

Sat - like most of the previous week - spent planning and building for No1 son 7th birthday party.  Much arguing with Mrs Rog (some times I AM right  ;D)

Sunday - final panic and then 17 kids dressed as Indians ( feathers not spots) trekking around the garden, doing various tasks and finally eating grub in the bamboo and tarp teepee.  Much fun was had by all.  Heart wrenched by one of the lads who's Dad was buried last week - he was killed in Afghanistan by a RSB

Little lad sat there and told me how his Dad was a hero and always would be. (To which I had to agree)

Slept late this morning.

Funnily enough my boy celebrated his 7th birthday on the 2nd. Sue took him and his mates off to the cinema this afternoon. We couldn't afford what has become the norm for kid's parties these days: every member of the child's class invited to an overpriced play centre for play and scoff and then sent home with extravagant goodybags.

Good on you for opting for a more traditional party... I bet the little blighters loved it eh?

As for the kid with no dad, what a terrible thing to happen eh? How many more and for what?

Can't speak for Afghanistan as I've never been there but certainly the presence of our troops in Bosnia made a huge difference and I used to regularly see "normal" people who were able to have a normal, average life specifically because of our presence, and indeed many of the wilder excesses of the warlords were halted by the UN/NATO presence.
The politics of deployments I'll stay out of, but the good that is done by "our boys" is clear to me.
None of that answers how many more (too many) or specifically "for what", but next time we bump into each other remind me to lend you a couple of cd's that will help to explain a little of why I believe we are doing good and why I believe we must continue to try.
My heart goes out to the young lad, I've a number of friends and aquaintances who've had very narrow squeaks but I/we've been lucky so far.
I'm glad he feels that way about Dad, he's right, and I hope his family never have to pay another price like that, unfortunately some will.

Lots more to say but I there's too much risk of not saying what I mean or writing something that would be misinterpreted. Look to your families first boys and girls, they are the most precious things you have next to your friends.

Ignore the rights and wrongs of why Cpl John was in Afgahnistan, I try to get my boys to wave or say thank you to any squaddie, Tar, flyboy or what ever we meet - if it were not for their willingness our would would be a much less safe place.

And yes they had a brilliant time - as did I dressed up as some sort of Shaman and climbing the trees etc  ::)

Hope your boy enjoyed the flix
