clockchange weekend debrief
« on: March 30, 2009, 09:19:38 AM »
Saturday was a (literal) washout....but brownie points were earned in abundance.....by amassing just about every type of glue known to man, and spending the day repairing all those things that I have been promising to do for the last 10 years.....bits of china, cupboard knobs, saucepan handles, antique dolls house furnishings!, leaky radiator....etc
Sunday....well...brilliant....wall to wall sunshine, completely massacred a big beech hedge with my chain saw, it was shading the veggy patch and my courgettes were a disgrace last year ( so SWMBO says), chopped up and stored another ton of wood for next winter.... (two more tons and I'll be ok for all of next winter......yipee)......repaired pond liner.....much to the annoyance of the Great Crested Newts, who are about to start their courtship display, cleaned and disinfected greenhouse....and finished off pruning the fruit trees.....thats about it.....

not a jot of biking stuff....but will be putting Number 4 to rights this week, before putting up on Ebay.

Terry Lee and I popped over to Somerset from West Sussex to visit Colin Hilliard and his wife Ann who, as most of you are aware, is in a Taunton hospital after suffering a stroke. It was excellent to see Ann in such good spirits (I really didn't think that Ann would be so upbeat). We spent a nice couple of hours or so there then, via some nice sightseeing with commentary from Colin, headed back to Martock for an evening in the White Hart.....lovely.
Another highlight was Colin's purchase of one of those TV's that take up the whole living room (he says it's for Ann's benefit when she comes home but, by coincidence, it was bought on the same weekend of the year's first Formula 1 GP...hmmm) It is BIG!!! Oh...and bloody heavy to boot!
All in all, a very nice weekend spent in good company although it was a bit worrying to hear Colin say that he will probably have to sell his bike to provide the funds to alter his house to accomodate Ann's access to the garden etc. He has already started to offload some kit (to Terry). I hope it doesn't come to that.

Only a little bit bikey this weekend, and that wasn't a very pleasant bikey bit at that.  :'(

Mr SteveH and I sucessfully completed the Abergavenny 3 peak challenge walk on Saturday. A great day and there was no way Steve could escape me prattling on about my bike for 10 hours ;D

Sadly, I picked up a puncture on my way home whilst out on the 'Heads of the Valley' road. Police turned up whilst i was waiting for the AA to move me on. Seems passing motorists were upset by the sight of me lying on the grass by my bike. They thought I might have come off. No bugger stopped mind, just reported me for (apparently) crashing in a manner to cause offence. Cops made me move the bike to where there was a small fence come barrier and told me if I wanted to lie down (to keep out the wind) I'd have to do it there! Charming!

Sunday was spent watching my No1 son play his first compeditive game of Rugby followed by hunting round for a tyre shop who would fix my puncture.

All fixed now. ;D

Here's THE Chris Vincent:

I have a piccy here of the other one with his Panther's sidecar wheel about a metre in the air, but without looking in every copy of classic racer (and I've got lots of 'em) I don't suppose I could find it.
