Weekend Debrief
« on: November 02, 2008, 07:43:39 PM »
Saturday 07.30: arrive at rendezvous with 'brother' and proceed in staff car to meeting place near Swansea. Make contact with local vendor re. purchase of new war caravan for brother's officer-issue motorcycle. Caravan found to be a Watsonian coach-built item in less than tip-top condition. Price agreed (forty Welsh pounds) and Watsonian transferred to staff car. Vendor tempted us with a Moto Guzzi V65 for £500 and showed us his two Bonnevilles, XJ900 and Z650. We declined offer of V65 and told him in no uncertain terms that British officers do not travel on Italian ponies.

Returned to HQ and outlined brief plan of action re. attack on Bavaria in late January (operation waterbottle).

After short stint back in the office (plastering a ceiling) retired to the HQ's barber for a regulation trim.

Saturday eveing should have been spent at a rural fireworks party but my senior officer restricted me to barracks.

Sunday was spent in the company of the latest batch of cadets. Barrack room unrest was quelled with gift of Kinder eggs.

Saw my motorcycle briefly yesterday morning  :(

London and back, XT.  Cold.  Boring roads on the way back.  M4 (XT not really ideal motorway hack).

Emptied garage {again! where does all the c%!p come from!}. Surveyed stock . Decided to examine rear brake of XS 11 which has been a bit erratic of late .Discovered an attempt had been made to assassinate owner . XS managed to partially ease out pin connecting rear brake pedal to master cylinder .Sound talking to delivered and rear master cylinder stripped and rebuilt.Superb help provided by little man , aged five .

I intended to try out the lowered suspension on the DR yesterday. What do you know it wouldn't start?. I think it must have flooded. Got it going eventually with a good shot of easy start. Did 40/50 miles and it is good to be able to get more than just your toes on the deck. Picked up an oil filter and drain plug washer on the way and then drained the oil. I haven't replaced the oil yet as I intend to adjust the balance chain tensioner before I do that. The lowering was done by having 10mm welded into the rear wishbone which has dropped the back end by @40mm there is still plenty off clearance between tyre an frame. At the front I inverted a spare set of handlebar top clamps and used them as handlebar raisers so that I could raise the forks throught the yokes @ 30.mm. Now I need to shorten the side stand and centre stand a bit. The mods do not seem to have had an adverse effect on handling, and at least its not so far to the ground now.

"Easy Start" - otherwise known as "Lazarus Fluid" in my garage as it damned near raises the dead.

Even starts old Beemers with bog all compression on a knackered battery in the winter.

Don't you also use it for hangovers in the cold?

It's all relative really . What you must understand is that, to some , 242 is not a HUGE number of empty beer bottles .Yes I have drunk them all personally and subsequently displayed same on shelving erected for the purpose.I have however restricted the bottles displayed to real ale only { no lager here son !} and am able to recall specific occasion as a result .

It has been said that smell taste and music jog your memory more than anything else .

What items do you have in your shed that illuminates the little grey cells ?

Oh! and what do you mean he did train me .It's ongoing , let me tell you .

There are few items of sentimental value in my shed, unless you count the two hardcore porn mags some dopey teenagers left dumped in my lane the other day (I really should throw those out).

My 'collections' are housed indoors. My primus stove collection is displayed on shelves in various rooms, much to Mrs Onepot's chagrin.

My Dragon Rally badge collection lives in a small box next to my desk. I am only missing the 1980 and 1983 badges (anybody got them to sell?) Once complete I will make some box frames to display them by decade.

I am a sucker for old paperwork, from school, jobs, relationships, etc. I occasionally delve into boxes containing things like my Star Rider assessment card, or my first payslip. The most amusing items are the servicing receipts for my first bikes... it may have seemed expensive then, but now it's amazing how low the amounts are.

Cheers

Not much room for sentimental tat in my OCD sufferers' shed I'm afraid. That said I have 1 or 2 photos that can stir the loins.
