SRX 600 engine to 700+cc ....
« on: April 05, 2008, 03:55:44 PM »
Hi to all,
I just got  a mail from WISECO uk,www.wiseco.co.uk sayng that they have a piston to upgrade to 633cc OR 761 cc kit for SRX 600. But, needs crank case clean up to clear skirt of the piston 633cc. £141.35 each piston (£28.00 for the profile gasket kit to match)

Well. question is: Anyone gone thru this mod ?

I would appriciate your advise.

Cheers :D

700+cc.....don't even go there!.....it will fall to bits in a big way....in fact the existing barrel wont open out far enough to take the larger liner, so not sure how it would be done, unless the kit includes a new barrel....then there would be mounting problems.....and a whole host of other problems as well

the 633 cc is the sensible limit....even then...if you use a high compression piston there are issues around the head bolts pulling their threads (believe me....just repairing one engine right now because of this)

Aye Kabeer,

Agree with Steve, 633cc as big as necessary, any bigger = GRIEF! >:(

My 'Sally' had a WISECO 633cc slipper in her and the slap and pickup on the piston was grim. I will post images if proof is needed. Not as bad as Han's pictures, but it required a new liner and piston. I went backwards, fitted a Wiseco XT600 liner and piston giving 598cc and a complete engine strip and rebuild. Goes fine on the public road, extra grunt = extra wear = extra fuel = extra expense and potentialy less use! Take your pick! ;)

My regards, Bill.

Oh..My GOD...you guyes all the info... and gone thro all the S*&*...

That's cool and  a big thank to you gentlmen for the advise. That means, keep the block stock & ride safe...
I'll be removing the stock airbox this week and replace with a K&N type filter on the carbs.
but somemore things to ask :
* does a porting-polishing job make or feel any extra grunt ??? :(
* Along with, If I change header pipes to slightly bigger dia pipes (cat s already by-passed) make an difference ???  :-[

Porting and polishing will actually make it less tractable and user friendly at lower RPMs, if a little bit rippier in accelleration.

You need fuel atomization in a carbureted bike, and a polished intake port will actually cause the fuel to form microglobules (not a technical term-more of a description) This may cause a bit of a rough, uneven idle.

A mild sandblasting in the intake ports will enable atomization...it helps form microvortices... small tornados.......good for atomization and general clean running.

In the exhaust ports...polish away.

Match the intake manifold diameters to the intake and exhaust port openings on the head..... with the carbs off, but with the intake manifolds in place...slide your finger into the intake and exhaust ports... the diameters should match smoothly where the manifold meets the head... if you feel a step... smooth it away... match them up.
The SRX will benefit from less backpressure in a larger diameter header...or a more open muffler, but again... the benefits wiill all be in the upper RPM ranges.

If you have a stock muffler... remove it and cut about a 6" x 6" hole in the bottom with a very narrow kerf grinder.     Peel the piece off (small welds retain it) and grind, cut, and drill holes in the eight miles of internal pipes and acoustical baffling.  Reweld the square piece back on.  You will have the attractive original muffler, a bit lighter, but it will breathe much better and sound like a thumper should.

If weight loss is the goal, hang the original muffler on your shop wall and go with a White Brothers or Supertrapp system... or maybe another that you like.

My eye sees the stock muffler as most beautiful, but it weighs about eleventeen tons and chokes it up a bit.
You make the call, based upon personal taste, time, and the thickness of your wallet.

Thanks a lot Bikeseamus for the port-polish advise. :)
Regading the "microvortice" thing, there's one guy on the net selling a "TURBONATOR ring" to install inside the intake manifold. Site says the turbonator improve fuel delivery & compresion ...
Does this ring make any sense inside the manifold ?? ???
Anyone installed these type of stuff ?  ???

Mekes perfect sense, but your SRX woulf benefit little from it.

Your dual intake ports address the velocity and fuel atomization
more than adequately, as your bike runs on one intake barrel most of the time.
That makes for higher intake fuel velocities (same mixture volume travelling down smaller opening, just like a water pipe.)

A very light sand or glass bead blast in the intake port... preferably only the left (primary) barrel should do the trick for tractable low RPM general user friendly grooviness in your SRX.

The Turbonator, like about everything else you can do to an engine, will have different results.

All engines are different, and the turbonator has been around for years and used by hotrod car drivers here to keep the high HP beasts somewhat tractable when your foot isn't deep into the gas pedal.
            Over and out.
