Happy sunday Not.
On the way back from work tonight took the front tyre and wheel out on a large pothole and lump of loose tarmac luckily I didn't fall off.
Thank God for RAC membership. home in 70minutes.
Anyone out there have any luck trying to sue the council.
Also anyone got a spare bmwk100 front wheel, although I will try motorworks tomorrow as I need the bike to go to work on everyday.

There is a place just up the road from me in Surfleet called motobins that deal in all BMW spares altought I guess there are several. I think there is a number in MCN in the legal part that you can check with for advice as to if you can take legal action

Hello mate

I went over an unlit traffic island, further destroying my already gubbed SRX.

It was of course, an immaculate example before this.

After about a year I got a decent payout from Islington Council, who admitted liability. Paid for bike and kit as I remember. I didn't take the piss with the claim (figures), and to my horror they sent an assessor out. He was very reasonable, especially as I had sold the forks....

I had a good witness in the shape of a london cabbie who picked me up, stuffed his name and address into my mit, and said "use me, you should hit the council for that"

Drop me a line if you want contact details of the solicitors, they were very good. Covered by my insurance.

Happy Sunday Not as well. Yesterday I was leading a group of friends on a ride to Staffordshire, when rounding a corner (near Oulton Park) and knocking it into second, the back end started fishtailing and I thought.....slippy, but it continued, and I thought.....punture.....two seconds later Pat and I were on the pavement with the DR lying on its crashbars. The tyre was off the rim, not wanting to wait for the RAC, a friend took me home, I removed the rear wheel from DR BIG, went back in the car, fitted the wheel and tyre and rode home with Pat following in the car.
After a cuppa we set off for Vyrnwy for a late lunch and to solve some more Round Britain Rally clues.
The reason for the blowout was a 2 1/2" nail buried to the head, which deflated the tube and the wheel spinning inside the tyre ripping off the valve.....new tyre and HD tube fitted this morning, so fingers crossed it doesn't happen again.Only minor injuries to us, some paint missing from the crashbars and a scuffed BMW handguard.

My friend dented the front wheel on his R80 BMW when he hit a pot hole.

He sent a quote for the parts along with a letter and a photo of the damaged wheel and the pot hole.

One week later he recieved a cheque for the wheel.

I'd first try this approach before using solicitors.
In a clean cut case i think they'd look at the cost of the legal wotnot's and just cough up, especially if you just want the cost of the parts- they're probably used to people trying to squeeze a few grand out of them.

After all, we all know where the money from any payout comes fom!

Thanks for the help I have emailed the council, taken pictures of the offending pothole and debris plus damaged rim. I will pass on the correct details to the council as read on the internet and how to do it.

the plus point is it made me get the srx out.

Dont contact the council first.

I came off on a pothole/loose tarmac and they just said that they check the roads regulary and so isnt their fault.

You need to take photos over a preiod of time to show its not being looked after properly.

Hit a flooded pothole in the car once. Did for an Alloy rim and two tyres

Approached the council who checked their records to discover that the particular stretch of road hadn't been inspected within the guideline time scale and they coughed for the lot

The important part was the timeline allowed for councils between checks on sections of road. If they have checked it out within the time period and a pothole develops afterwards, you'll get nowt. If they have neglected to check that section however, they have to pay.

Hi Kurt, Vyrnwy is the correct spelling in English, Efyrnwy in Welsh.....I must be correct in my spelling with all the Welshmen lurking. It's a lovely spot.....a large reservoir surrounded by forest with quiet roads and a couple of cafe's.....very picturesque.
More like bang,bang,bang'n away.....on a big single.

ps The village is called Llanwddyn if you want to look it up on a map of North Wales.
