On my Jacket I've got 6 pockets - which is more than normal for a bike jacket.
Do people use them all?

I keep in my jacket at most times

£5 ish in loose change (this normally drops through the hole in the pocket into the jacket)
two double ended spanners (tightening those bolts that come loose through vibration)
pliers (For pulling on cables for when they snap)
tyre pressure guage
A front brake hub lever for my crusader that someone tied to my bike whilst i was away from it.
matches, lighter - not that i smoke  ???
bottle opener (essential if you break down)
3 or 4 different keys to peoples houses and garages
break down details - bike club cards
a key ring that turns most tv's off

To me that seems sensible, just wondered if everyone else felt they needed to fill their pockets.

I have quite a few pockets on my Buffalo jacket but would never carry the stuff you do in 'em. Spare earplugs are about all I carry. All that metal would do damage in a spill I'm sure. Keys, bottle opener and Spanners????? Oh dear.
Kreiga make some nice kit for carrying stuff, I'm sure their Stash would do for most things.

I've got a lighter, baccy, a small zippy bag of baby wipes (to get dead wildlife off my visor), AA card and a spare few quid for emergency petrol. A 'multitool' thing and what's left of my Honda tool kit live under my seat.

I've not counted my pockets but there are many. Weird little ones for god knows what. They've all got infuriating velcro flaps on them. I hate velcro, it's everywhere. Theres little straps round the arms and wrists and waistband that I'm sure nobody ever uses, with big wodges of velcro hanging off them. What was wrong with good old fashioned press studs? If I dump my jacket on the sofa, an hour later it's got half the family cat stuck to it.

Having ridden in places where you leave nothing you actually want on the bike (Morocco, Italy, London etc.) and might end up in a ditch miles from nowhere (Morocco, Norway, Bradford etc.) I got into the habbit of using the pockets on the jacket and trousers. The full long range list included:

Matches, lighter, pipe
Camera
GPS
Cable lock for helmet
helmet bag
folding shopping bag and cargo net
Hip flask
Keys
Passport, money, cards, photo's of family, Vehicle documents and copies
Keys and spares
Swiss army knife, torch, lots of small batteries, whistle, hand compass
Map
Pen
Inner gloves, thermal balaclava, hat, boot liners.
Sweets
dressing pack
half litre camel back.
Baby wipes and a pack of three ( :-[ go on, bring on the comments! They are for removing bugs and emergency waterproofing, honest guv).

I always carried tools on the bike on the basis that if you got separated from the bike you wouldn't need the tools.

This little lot as stated above is lethal shrapnel if you come off. As my travel is now less extensive and the outfit has easily accessible lockable stowage i'm now trying to get back into the habit of carrying nothing except paper and the odd coin on my person. I'd heartily reccomend using a QD tank bag or a grab bag in the top of a pannier even if you do want to carry all the above. It might not feel as secure but it's got to be safer.

Earplugs and thats all. I fell off a mountain bike at less than walking speed, I had a single car key in my pocket, I could walk properly for about a month and my leg was black and blue. God know what would happen of you land a set of keys or spanner at 30mph

Well, yes.....I've done exactly the same as SteveH.....bloody painful.....and when i was at school (yup, they did have them then!) a mate, with who'm i shared the filthy habit of smoking (round the back of the bike sheds, as is the norm) was making a hasty exit from his shed, to avoid getting caught smoking by his dad.......fell over....and ignited the box of swan vesta's in his pocket.....scarred for life and 3 skin grafts......daft bu55er still smokes too

Just remembered an incident from my youth. At about 3.30 one Friday afternoon in mid winter a mate calls me and announces we have to go get drunk in Leeds. As a 21 year old with a grant cheque burning a hole in my pocket I hop aboard by trusty MZ and give it full throttle round the North circular and up the M-1. By 9.00 I'm 220 miles north, having had a shower at my mum and dads to get the heat back into my extremities, five pints of proper northern beer in the pubs and am stood in the queue outside some dive in Leeds centre. I'm still wearing my grubby, salt stained jacket as my one set of clean clothes and a stack of washing prevented carrying another. I also think said jacket is the key to pulling  :-[

The bouncer is obviously inexperienced and thinks I should empty my pockets (of which I have lots). I have on me a fuel filter, three spark plugs, a small wire brush, a clutch cable, two feet of (household) electrical cable, various fuses, a headlight bulb, a spare chain link, a thing for getting valves out of tyres, a film canister ful of grease.....etc. When the pile starts to overflow his hands he asks me why I'm carrying all this ****.  I point out I came on an MZ and he tells me to **** off inside and leave my coat in the cloakroom  ;D

These days 220 miles by MZ wearing a leather jacket and jeans in freezing temperatures in order to drink overpriced bottled lager in a dark hole with sticky floors and music so loud you can't see properly really wouldn't do. Guess I'm just getting old  :-\

Multitool thingy plus micro torch
Spare earplugs
Mobile
sunglasses
mini screwdriver
sidestand puck
...................
...and a pair of socks in a plastic bag!.....well my ride to work boots aren't 100% waterproof and during last 'summer' I arrived at work several times with squelchy socks...nothing worse at the beginning of the day... hence a pair of dry socks!   ;D

To my shame my pockets nearly always contain woodscrews, drill bits and small screwdrivers. I do worry about what would happen if I fell off, but using the bike for my sort of job it's inevitable that I'll be riding around with pockets full of sharp metal things.
