A day out with a "gentleman's sporting single"
« on: February 20, 2008, 05:08:07 PM »
I had to go to the dentist this morning; a sixty mile round trip so
as it was cold rather than dangerous I took the Skorpion.  As most of you would be aware the roads
in West Wales are small and narrow and the corners
characteristically go off in three or four dimensions at the same
time. We both had a fine time thrapping past traffic and entering
corners with gusto - I even managed to bounce off the limiter once
or twice but only fleetingly as you run out of road very quickly.
The Renegade can seems to have loosened her up a bit and the roll on
is much improved. When we got home my new Gilles clipons had
arrived so I loose fitted them to see how
they looked and felt - very promising indeed.

Then seeming disaster - on putting her to bed - we lost traction on
the grassy lane that leads to my workshop - everything having
melted - and I found myself on my bum in the mud with the bike on
top of my left foot. So it was out with the tools to straighten the
gear lever, I took the opportunity to shim it up with a new wavey
washer, so the fit is a little snugger. The left handlebar was out
but this time (and for the first time ever) a couple of clouts with
a rubber mallet (MZ special tool #1) sorted it out nicely. A quick
wipe off of the mud and the "gentleman's sporting single" is back on
form.

What did you all get up to today then?

I thought I'd try work? And whilst there I undertook some Team Thumper business by having a long and interesting chap with the founder, and brains behind, Tigcraft, Dave Pearce. Gave me a lot of very good and time saving info., such as this interesting fact:

An SRX/XT/XTZ motor will produce more horsepower having a 'conventional' rather than 'oil-in-frame' oil tank. Apparently this is due to crankcase pressure!

Then I went home and put up some curtains........ ::)
