Fuck me, it's been edited since I posted the link.

It originally said that it was one of 14 nuclear devices that the US cannot account for.

Oh come on SteveL, they used to mine the stuff just over the boarder to the west of you!  ;D

Coprolites!

You'll need some of that for the 4 course rotation in the veg patch! ;)

Here's a URL if your still mystified:

Happy digging, Bill.

Used to work with a guy who had a polished coprolite as a paper weight - his daughter was an 'expert' in old shit.

Are you referring to Grimes Graves by any chance Bill?

When we first came up here in the 70's, you could go down into the workings, and crawl along the tunnels.............

The PC/HSE brigade have done for that......all fenced off, can't get within 25 yards (sorry, meters, or is it metre's) of the opening now......I think they've done the same with stonehenge

It'll be stabilisers on motorbikes soon, mark my words!

Aye Steve,

Grimes Graves are the remains of flint mines from the Neolithic Period I believe.

Coprolite mining was for fertiliser, especially as the coprolites have a high phosphate content.

This link takes you to a site descrbing the mining in Cambridgshire:

www.cambridgeshirehistory.com/People/coproliteindustry.html

This is another link about the mining in the SE of Suffolk and is connected with the developement of Fisons fertiliser and their once large operation at Levington on the Orwell (Levington Composts etc):

www.trimley-st-martin.org.uk/downloads/TSMCMR.pdf

I know its sad and a load of old s*1t, but as an inquisitive site surveyor, its part of the job. I hope you enjoy the reading.

My regards, Bill.
