This week I am working at a house in the countryside, about ten to fifteen miles from home and this morning's weather didn't bode well. One look out of the window made my mind up, I had to dig out my wellies.
I refuse to wear my £240 Daytona Goretex boots to work so the wellies get press-ganged into action every now and again. Whilst I was hunting under the stairs for the boots I came across my full-face lid, an Arai Quantum (with Doohan tear stripes and some stick-on Ogri wings).
Thus equipped I can safely say that I shrugged off the worst of the rain on my ride to work. I ended up fording about ten mini floods on the way. It felt great to be 100% protected from the rain and I might start wearing the wellies more often (Jewson's finest, complete with steel toecaps).
The lid was nice too. I haven't worn my full-face for about 8 years now and I was surprised how pleasant it was to have my chin out of the wind. Of course it helps if you bought a good lid to start with and the Quantum was top-drawer in its day.
Let's just hope that the rain eases tonight (especially for poor old Tewkesbury).
