Dragon badges

I think I've asked here before, but does anyone have a 1980 and/or 1983 Dragon badge they'd like to sell?

For reasons now unclear to me, I started collecting Dragon badges (other than my own from attending) a couple of years ago and I only have these two left to complete the set.

Going on an average of the last few I'd bought I'd say that £30 each was a fair price. Surprisingly it's the 60s badges that fetch the least (other than the first cloth badge which hardly ever comes up for sale). 60s badges struggle to fetch £10, whereas a 1985 badge (with the date intact - it's a long story*) can fetch over £100 because that's the year that only about 250 people made it to the rally due to snow.

If you have a 1962 cloth badge or a 1985 badge (with date) then you have a few hundred quid in your hands. My intentions aren't financial, I ran a website devoted to Dragon stories (currently off-line) and I wanted to have pictures of all the year badges. I also collect songsheets, tickets and magazine articles connected to the rally, because I love the event.

Anyway, I'd be absolutely delighted to talk to someone who can help me complete the set.

* The 250 riders who made the 1985 snowy rally had badges as per usual. Another rally was held a month later so everyone else could attend and the badges for the later Dragon had the year ground off. Funnily enough, I have never seen a ground badge on Ebay so that too might be worth a penny.

What year did they hold it in Abergele by the castle? Must've been mid-eighties. I didn't exactly attend (I was only about 15 at the time and didn't have a proper bike) but since I lived nearby I popped up there and loitered a bit. It was bloody cold, I spent a good while helping people pick up their bikes on the ice.

Hiya Onepot et al

You can find photos of nearly all the Dragon badges here:

http://www.lpmcc.net/rallies/rally_badgesd.htm

Rallies are in alphabetical order, when you have found the one "D" for dragon page - click n one of the Dragon photos to get more information.

I've got an '85 badge, but mine is complete 'cos I got there - it was at Gwrych Castle at Abergele, and only about 600 riders made it.  I don't remember there being another meet later, but there was almost a riot when someone in the Conwy club decided to sell off the spare badges with the tops ground off...

I did my first Dragon in '65 - and you can read all about it on the website above.

Now - please tell me - why has the Thumper Club died?  I sent off my cheque as a new member a few weeks ago - and I've e-mailed - but I've heard nothing!

Ahh that will be because we expect GC to do everything and at this time of the year he is dashing about trying to get all those jobs he has promised will be done for Christmas, finished, maintaining relations with his family and trying to keep his bike running - so he can work.  There is an element of hibernation too - mm does hibernation and Hibernian come from the same root?  is Hiber-Nation the alternative name for Scotland in the winter?

In relation to our Celtic soul brothers you've confused Hibernation with Inebriation I fear!

Roger is exactly right in his summary of the situation. Our new membership secretary hasn't got his act together and I'm doing the job... only I'm too busy with work to get much done.

I'm hoping to use my two days off to clear the backlog of membership apps.
