Dear Aunty Agony...
« on: December 09, 2007, 11:16:57 PM »
I've started looking wistfully at ex plod Pan Euros.... does that mean I've finally got old or I'm spending too long riding in c**p weather??  :-[
Worried of Dunf(!)

ps. Anyone had one? Anything I should be looking out for? Is there a way to drop the seat height on the earlier ones (ST1100)?

Most of the biking cops I know don't rate them but I guess you could take a lot of the high and rearward weight off that seems to play havoc with the handling.

Buy an old Airhead Beemer.  Much more fun.  Or a big old Guzzi as an acceptable alternative.

Hello smudge

Thumpeteer (prolly now an ex member actually, but I still see him) Barry Johnson has one.  Ex Plod.

He really rates it.  It wasn't very cheap, but it is very nice.

can put you in touch if you like.  he's pretty good with the spanners, and very amenable to offering help, info etc.

Cheers for now

ps.  I WILL get you a munaual burnt!

That'd be cool  :) you can give nim my yahoo email if it's easiest.
The ST1100's seem to go for about 3k for a 10,000 mileish example (which seems ok given most people afaik rate them as good for 100,000  :o )
I've seen an ex plod ST1300 from force motorcycles at about 6k iirc, probably too expensive/complicated for me but seems competitive for what it is  ???

The idea of weather protection, more go, more luggage space, shaft drive and a comfy seat for swmbo are all factors, especially when the fuel consumption seems to be generally rated as similar to the MZ!?!?! (45 to 50mpg depending who you ask)

Would be late next year at earliest *if* I go back to the (multi) dark side but I'm doing my research early  ;)

I guess it's all just a symptom of using the bike as a "car".  ???

We have a few members with these ST1100's.
Ask any questions you want on the Perth Ulysses site. We can also give you a service manual.
The only weak spot we have noted is the shaft drive gears. If the maint. has been lax they can be worn out at around 90-100.000kays
Some of our guys use them as daily hacks, while keeping their #1 steed for runs. you will enjoy riding it as long as you can reach the ground and hold it up at the lights.

A couple of mates of mine used to be couriers, both of them ran Pans.I am sure that one of them did over 200,000 miles on his,it was a bit rough by then tho'.The other one wasn't far behind in mileage when it got thrown down the road and wrecked.

He has had 3 of them at one time, and still rides one daily. He can probably give you most answers. I have ridden pillion with him a few times and the ST 's are a top bike for 2 up riding.
