Comfortable ?
« on: December 07, 2007, 04:53:12 PM »
Are there any motorcycles that are actually comfortable to ride if you are more than 6ft tall?  Maybe its just me, perhaps I just pick the ones that aren't. I'm currently riding an MZ Mastiff, which is well known for being uncomfortable so I'm thinking about this quite a lot.

When you find the answer, let me know  :)

I sem to have a knack for buying uncomfortable bikes, the worst by far being my old DR350.

Try a DR750, mine is great but a little too tall for me, perhaps that's why I keep falling off it!
If I'm not working I'll be away on my bike camping!

I rode one at the annual rally one year (remember the orange and white one?). It was bloody lovely and I'd really like one.

Perhaps one day  ::)

If you can't afford a new bike try cycling shorts under your gear (the lycra ones with a chamois pad). Could take the worst off it...?

Once the foot rests were shifted the RD500 was comfortable - but not really practical, mind for holidays I used to put a sheepskin on the seat for the boring ride along the motorway.

Triumph Sprint was comfortable - but I did not really get on with it - shame as I really wanted one.

My old Z200 was surprisingly comfortable. Comfiest seat I ever sat on was the 1100 version of the Yamaha Virago, was like a sofa but nicer! Mind you that was just in the shop, I imagine it would give me backache if I rode it for more than a few hours.

Edited to add: I imagine the old BMW RT's with the big fairings would be comfy, anything that gets you sitting up straight like in a HGV driving seat is normally pretty good.

Oh and sticking on a small screen a'la GS BMW diverts a lot of windblast away from your chest on the MZ

Mate had a BMW Rt - he thought it was fab - I hated it.  He was 5 ' 10" and I am 6' 3" - the wind went over his head, me I had my head buffeted and shaken all over.  Seat was comfy but ride was hideous - mind if it was mine I could have changed it.

Have to say he was probably the first BM rider I have known who did nto look like he was riding with a broom handle (family site so fill in the rest)

Have met a few more since

My Triumph Trophy was very comfortable. The only reason I eventually sold it was it's weight and top heavyness.Oddly I find the VFR a bit uncomfortable at first but the further I go it seems to get better. As for the Transalp I haven't done a long run on it yet, time will tell.

The Translap is another bike I'd like to own. I used to do cycle race marshalling with a guy who rode a Transalp. He was so fast on the corners it used to scare the crap out of me. On one occasion a lad marshalling with us on an RGV250 nearly binned it trying to keep up. It was a hoot seeing his baffled face as he tried to describe the feeling of being blown away by a 50 year old bloke on a trailie 650 twin  :)

They have always struck me as a good solid little 'do-anything' bike.
