Just put a PC 680 (AGM) in the Beemer and will report back in due course.

Any other experiences.

The superior CCA attracted me, always a weak point in the winter as the batteries ability falls and the thickness of the oil increases.

  I understood CCA = Cold cranking ability... but you've beaten me on the rest!

CCA = Cold Cranking Amps
AGM = Absorbed Glass Mat

The Hawker Odyssey is supposed to be a military 12 volt battery suitable for motorcycles and the like and comes in a range of sizes - the 680 is the recommended fitment for Beemer airheads.  I think they would make a good battery for a Thumper - retaining starting ability in the cold against high compression and thick oil.  For their size they carry more 'oomph' and can be fitted on their side (but not upside down).  They can't spill and aren't supposed to suffer from vibration problems as the traditional wet lead acid batteries do.

They are pricier - mine was about double the cost of a normal battery - but smaller.

Anybody else used them ?

 i've got a hawker odyssey battery that i used to have on my r100 bmw.

it hasn't been on a bike in almost two years and still shows 13V. it was strong enough to crank over an r100 in the winter with thick oil for a good 5 minutes (not continually or it'd melt the starter).

Whaaa! 

Most airheads beemers give the impression that if they don't spark in the first four seconds, the battery will just die.

There's a horrible truth in that statement
