what bike

as some might know i had to sell my cbf250
hope the buyer turns up tomorrow with the cash 
now my dilemma  i need a bike again obviously ...
my favorites ..cheep and cheerful ...
Suzuki tu250x 

at least a small thumper and looks quiet pleasant  and upgradeble from the optic towards a dirt tracker 

or caferacer style


or a yamaha xv535

cardan and good for touring and commuting

but which one should i go for  ok i quiet like the tu250x ..ok its not the fastest bike on earth but they are reliable

If the TU would be your only bike, I would really recommend that you try one before you buy.  I have a Suzuki GN250 , which is basically the same bike, as my work bike for a daily 40 mile round trip commute. As a commuter it's adequate, if not quick.  It's very reliable, it's good on petrol - an easy 70MPG plus- and it actually handles quite well.
However, if it's going to be your only, do everything,bike i would think again.  It's slow -it'll cruise at 60 but there is very little speed or power after that. Overtaking anything going more than 50 mph takes a LOT of planning - you'll spend a lot of time following slow cars and lorries. It's physically small so most cars treat it as a moped and try to bully you out of the way - you'll be tailgated, cut up and generally hassled. Don't even think about going near a motorway as at anything near motorway speed (when it eventually gets there) it rattles like a bucket of bolts and drinks oil faster than a 2 stroke! Apparently some one rode one around the world....he must have had plenty of time!

Sorry if this sounds a bit negative - as I said at the beginning it's an OK commuter, but if it was my only bike I think I'd buy a Volvo!!!

  had a gn250 too and i really liked it it was quiet fast sometimes on sunnny days  i went up to a astonishing 75 mph and it realy sounds like a bucket of nails  and drunk about a half liter oil every 100 miles  best thing was the automatic gearbox    you could start in first and for everything after 20mph you could simply use 5th gear as downshifting didnt make a hell of a difference  the engine is quiet torquey not like on my cbf 250 which was a bit faster (up to 90mph on a good day)but it needed revs revs revs and more revs up to 9500 all the time to bring it really forward below 5000 happend absolutly nothing at all

They're awfully anaemic for a 250. Have you tried an MZ 250? There are a few of them around, and owners seem to love them.

I had an MZ ETZ250 for 3 years and it was a brilliant little bike. I'd recommend one! ...... in fact, I wouldn't mind another.......Oh whoops!   this is a four stroke singles forum isn't it ............

hm was gone so i needed quickly something else for getting to work on monday
and what did i buy?
not a thumper 
but a gsx750f  from 1990 with not even  20000 miles on the clock
previous owner polished it more the riding it
so i dont ride a thumper any more for a while
but maybe next year things look different

For myself I'd hope you'll still come on here, been nice reading your letters and looking at sites you post. Not all on here are exclusively thumper owners, myself included and not being an active member and mostly a  browser I would be sorry to see the last of you.

thanks mates ..like i said maybe next year things looking better
its a strange feeling to ride a multi cylinder engine again after years of singles
where is the engine braking gone on these multis   
but she`s doing well had a rideout on sunday 110 miles and she only consumed
just over 8 liters

8 litres of oil in 110 miles - even my old RD500 did better than that..
