weekend debrief
« on: September 10, 2007, 09:06:49 PM »
I went to a party on my mate's farm on saturday. Jethro was there too. I rode up on the trusty black outfit and wore my Davida piss-pot for a laugh. It's a nice helmet, but the looks you get from car drivers annoys me a little. I'm happy in my eccentricity, but I don't like others reminding me of it.

Jethro bivvi'd under his poncho/basha and I bivvi'd under the stars. Our slumber (and that of all the others in the camping field) was ruined by the tentful of 20 year olds making a godawful racket. However, sleep did come and I awoke to a glorious view of the valley.

On Sunday morning we accepted the host's offer of some clay pigeon shooting (aren't shotguns loud?) and then some target shooting with a nice .22 rifle.

I was about to leave when my wife rang to remind me that it was 1.00pm and I was a selfish bastard. I kept my helmet on when I got home and the sight of me in 3/4 length black leather jacket with white scarf and the piss pot with some natty goggles perched on top made her guffaw. In this way some peace was restored to the Carrick homestead and I mollified her more by finally getting around to rendering a shoddy wall for the rest of the afternoon.

you?

Not a lot - Jen has been away and the boys and ME/CFS between them had knackered me out.  Spent some time looking at a shoddy wall here that GC has not been back to finish since March.

Watched the rugby on TV - boring except the Argies beating the French that is.

Well I had a cracking time at the XRV owners rally back up in Dent ;D Took the A roads up there and arrived via the gated road which set my mood to 'relaxed'. Didn't bother with the rideouts, but Boyd and I finally climbed the hill opposite the site and what a job it was! Much much steeper than it looks and far far rougher going under foot with tall marsh grass, raveens (spell?) and spongy moss that swallowed your foot. After that didn't do much for the rest of Saturday.
I'd taken my chico with me and enjoyed hearty BBQ's for tea on Friday and Saturday, and on Saturday evening it became the focal point for a drinking session when one of the chaps 'aquired' a pallet!
Our marquee was the centre of evening entertainment and was well respected. Boyd and I (with some help from others) took it down and packed it away, but had to leave the roof section airing in the barn as it was quite damp (did see Mick and explained what we'd done and he was fine with it.) Took a scenic route out of the Dales, but once I hit the M6 I decided to set the speed at 65-70, sit back and chug my way home.
This was a very, very informal rally with nothing really planned. Some guys knew some great rideouts both on and off road, and if you wanted to go, they would take you, but apart from that it was just mates meeting up and having a laugh ;D Have to say though our marquee helped make it as it was the gathering point when the pubs shut.
Oh and if your wondering what my connection is with the XRV owners, well their forum extends to all Honda dual sports/off road bikes so Dolly (the Dominator) qualifies ;)

This was 'Brownie point earning weekend' for me, somehow I've managed to enrole on the Morini trackday at Cadwell on the 19th AND the Classic bike 'burn up' on the 26th!.
So.....over the last 3 weekends it's been entirely domestic, repointed both chimneys, and capped them properly. stripped, undercoated and topcoated all four windows at the front of the house, and the front door, just waiting for posh Farrow and Ball 'button blue' paint for the door (swmbo likes the national trust colours, and at the moment her word is law!)
Bantam managed to hatch out 5 chicks on saturday, so thats kept the grandchildren and everyone else occupied and happy.
Should have sufficient points for the track days by next weekend

Bit of a poorly weekend; we all stayed indoors as we were all ill to varying degrees.  :(
Saw the garden from the kitchen window and believe the bikes are still snuggled up in the bike shed so they are OK  8)

Did loads of eBay though. Sold lots and listed lots. Howver, used turbo lister for the first and quite probably last time. Items load up OK but took 7 hours before you could search for them!! Whats the point of an auction if your goods cant been seen??  >:(

With all the spare time did a fair bit of internet browsing (including posting stuff here).

About to bid on 2 ebay items that will hopefully fix my SRX. That would be good  :)

I do not know if a version of "Garage Sale" is available for PCs, but I use it on the Mac for eBay listings and it does a lovely job.

Just got back from Monotreffen. Had a great time with Steve, Big Al and Rick. Al and Steve both had to start my  bike on a couple of occassions. I blame my injuries from earlier in the year but I don;t think they bought it. One person dropped his bike bike starting it on the ferry. No names but it was an XT 600. He picked it up pretty quick when he saw my camera coming out. My new front mudguard spat seemed to keep all the spray away from the plug and coil as there was no misfiring despite some very heavy rain. Team leader finished of in fine style leading us to a great Greasy spoon just near the ferry. Hezzle rooooad. It isn't spelt like that but it seems to be the correct pronunciation.  MTF

Spent my weekend reflashing above my porch and garage and pointing brickwork  :-[

Bloody boring and kept sliding down the roof with all my tools!

Still, had to be done.

Bunked off today and went for a thrash on the trumpet, much better  ;D

Can't remember Sat, oh yes that's right - big lunch in the Gower - inlaws have been getting on each others nerves for 50 years. Sun went to Aberaeron for a couple of hours to see my mate about our run to Ireland. Took the Skorpion (hence questions about exhaust sealer.) Apart from that she went well - don't like Conti Avenues - touchy over the white line - just a bit.

Raced?   at Mallory on Sunday in the Supermono's on my srx. Actually shared the bike with a mate (Simon Bird) who has been preparing to race & couldn't wait till his bike was ready, so I let him use mine.
I raced in the Supermono championship (1-practice / 1-qualifying session & 1x 18 lap race)
The day went well, my (slow!) lap times improved throughout the day, right up to my fastest lap being  my last lap, finished dog last (5th in class & 13th overall) but pleased with getting my riding smoother, so was well pleased. (well, almost!), as Simon, (who has never ridden mine, or any race bike before, managed, after practice, to beat my best lap time by a second, when he raced it in the Sound of thunder (2x races, + the allcomers race at the end of the day).
Very pleased for Simon (+ bike is still in one piece), but a bit miffed that I couldn't go any quicker!

Next stop, Cadwell Park, on 6th & 7th Oct.

Work!! Could tell you but I'd have to kill you  ;) :D
Now back in the real world again at last (hurrah!) and hoping the rain will ease off so I can get the MuZ back out for a long awaited blast  8)
