I'm sure better informed people will be along soon, but I think the wheels from a GB fit straight on.
I'm messing about, trying to get a spoked set with disc rear brake and am using the hub from a NX650. Fits in the swing arm OK with enough room for a calliper mount, but it will need a new rim fitting and there's spacers to be made to line all the sprockets up. Still if it's what you want, you can solve such problems right???

Best of luck.

Squirrel, first you need to space the hub so the sprocket carrier lines up with the front sprocket, as the front sprocket is fixed by the engine. then make a spacer up for the other side so it fits snug in the swingarm.

It doesnt matter where the disc sits (as long as it doesnt foul anything) as you will be having to fabricate caliper mounts to suit anyway.

Not all hubs are centrally aligned with the rim, they can be offset to the left or the right (this offset is called dish)however they are stronger when central, all pushbike wheels with 7,8,9 speed gear cassettes are dished to allow room for the cassette.
You need to work out where the rim needs to sit to be aligned with the front wheel (and work out where the rim is, in relation to the hub fixed in the swingarm) and then get the hub laced to the rim with the correct amount of dish, which a good wheel builder can easily do.
If it is not quite right the dish can be adjusted be tightening the spokes on 1 side of the wheel then loosening the spokes on the other to pull the rim across.(im not suggesting you do this yourself but you can take back to wheel builder and say the rim needs to be 5mm to the left or right etc).

Cheers Jhop, sort of sussed that myself :-) Measured a standard XBR wheel yesterday as a matter of fact, to work out the off-set of the sprocket carrier to the rim centre line. Sadly the wheel I have is different by 12mm so not only a re-spoke but new rim is called for (the rim could be moved over by a maximum of 6mm before the drillings for the spokes become too distorted) Heyho! such is the pattern of my life :-)

Thats good, just wondered if you were having trouble because of the ??? in the previous post.

Are you fitting spoked rims for the authentic cafe racer look ? They do look good, but all I can think about is what a pain in the a*** spoked wheels are to clean.

Yep, hopefully she will be looking like a 60's cafe racer complete with authentic rough edges you'd expect from a bike that old :-) Suppose disc brakes aren't quite traditional, but I would still like a bike to perform well and oval drums were never a good look :-) Know what you mean about cleaning spoked wheels though. Only done it once. Sheer hell! Stilll this one is a 'nice day only' toy and I'm banking on conning the kids into the job for extra pocket money.

The question marks earlier was for Wally's benefit, meaning did he feel all the hassle was worth it.

Cheers.

The SJ model used the same hubs as the GB500. I'm sure any number of spoked hubs could be made to fit but the main sticking point is the front disk. I can't see anyone opting to use a CB250RS disk on a much heavier faster bike.

An NX650 front hub appeared to be a good choice (same disk mounts) but the speedo drive is on the other side to the XBR hub.

Rear hubs are less problematic, but you would need to pay attention to torque arm points, etc.

If you want to fit another set of hubs then you will have to accept that some machining may be involved.

We will be addressing this issue soon in our XBR FAQ, available to all members free of charge.

If you need spacers etc - you wll need to source the stock and a drawing but my time (with in reason) and the lathe are at your disposal.  Have not got a milling slide yet so only circles....

im putting rs250 wheels on my xbr project (see project builds for details)
the front fits & lines up perfectly & i have used a cb750/900 f front disc which lines up ok, may have to take a couple of mm off the caliper mounting bracket
